What is "paying people off" in the current era of the professional college athlete even mean?
Do you think that Self, Petino, Calipari et al weren't "paying people off" through the school deals, club coaches brokering players, etc?
No one blinks when Duke, UNC, Michigan State, et al, gets multiple 5 star recruits. Wasn't there speculation of sweet deals for Zion Williamson recruitment to Duke? It's a new day. Anyone can offer the mega-deals. it's all legal now.
