We took three relatively obscure coaches and they won national championships at LSU. Then we tried to find the next Saban (good luck with that) and whiffed big time on it. I have realistic expectations. We do not have the winning culture of Bama. But we can be consistently competitive with the resources we have.

I’d still argue NIL has fricked LSU. You lost Underwood because of it. There will be many players that LSU routinely would sign that they no longer will. That’s not to say they won’t sign quality players but just like Bama and Georgia, they won’t have the depth of years past. I just see that issue hurting LSU more than it hurts Alabama and Georgia.

LSU has the titles with the last three coaches before Kelly, I’ll give you that. They also have at least three losses every season since 2011 minus the 2019 team. 2019 was the outlier and 9-3 or 8-4 is the new standard. Has been for 15 years.

So, we are basically like the rest of the SEC when they play Bama as well.

Longer than fifteen years.

I cut my teeth on LSU football in the 70s. Just trying to be competitive. But with Nick Saban coming (and going) the expectation now is 9-3 or 10-2 (whether you can achieve it or not is to be determined) and a shot at the CFP. Being destroyed at home by ATM was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

If they stop chasing the next Nick Saban (there is still too much unhealthy fixation on him and what he accomplished) we can focus on putting ourself in the position to be relevant and competitive year in and year out. However, if we are keep trying for a Lane Kiffin type hire then yeah, we are going to rapidly slip into obscurity.

The greatest team of all time gave up 41 to Bama and only won by 5 then lost by 38 points the next year?

Don't forget Joe Burreax leading Corndog U to a 29-0 loss, at home, the year before lol.

2019 LSU was like 2010 Auburn...a complete anomaly.

On a note ... that 32-31 win was the greatest night of Brian Kelly's life. He'll never feel like that again for the rest of his life.

5 point when blah blah. LSU went up by 20 and Bama never led.

Alabama had a chance for an onside kick down five with under two minutes left. That’s not a blowout, numbnuts.

They won the game, but that Children's Hospital championship* team was not the all-timer they think. They've built it up over time because they've been irrelevant since. Again, much like 2010 Auburn. (but even au had 2013 before completely fading in to obscurity)

A fully healthy Tua and that game is different...but ifs and buts as they say.

The best part of the 13-2 run has been the times we absolutely ripped their hearts out in between years of steamrolling them.

Yeldon screenpass
Blake Sims drive/OT
And the crown jewel of them all 21-0
