A ton of Italians immigrated here. Lots of big farms around sunflower and Washington counties owned by Italians.

Humphreys county is full of Irish blood. That’s why everyone from Belzoni is red headed and loves to drink and fight

I am Catholic and live in MS. Many Irish Catholics came here to work on the railroad during the 1800’s just before the Civil War and afterwards as well. Some of us still live here.
Certainly a small % of the population. Probably about 5-8% Overall but places like the coast, River cities and RR towns have a higher % of Catholics.

I probably appreciate my Catholic Faith more than a Catholic in S. Louisiana because there are not as many of us here.

It was mentioned in the thread, but did you really think there was a requirement to be Catholic to attend a Catholic Private school or there were no Catholic Churches in Mississippi?

I was reading about Cooper because I wondered if he played college football at all. Apparently not, due to a medical condition.

Cooper was a wide receiver who was signed by Ole Miss and was discovered to have cervical spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal in the neck). He underwent surgery but developed postoperative bleeding into the spinal canal (spinal epidural hemorrhage) which put pressure on the spinal cord and started causing paralysis. It was repaired and he went through long rehabilitation but never played again.

I wonder why Cooper's daughter attended Catholic school. I mean, I haven't lost sleep wondering about it, but was just curious. Perhaps Cooper's wife is Catholic.

You apparently are unfamiliar with the education system in New Orleans. There are only a very few public schools that deliver a too quality education and top in-school environment. For public high schools, only magnet schools Ben Franklin, and maybe Lusher, qualify.

(This doesn’t mean you cannot get a good education at other public schools… it just a comment on the total environment).

For lower schools perhaps only Haines (those schools may be renamed by now because everyone knows Mr. Ben Franklin, Lusher, and Haines were probably KKKers).

Other options include only private k-12 Newman and Country Day… or the excellent Catholic School system. Sacred Heart is top grade in that system. I’ll have to admit that there is something to be said for single sex schooling

It is a shock to people moving into the New Orleans area to discover they have to pay $20,000 per kid to educate their children. And that is after-tax money.

New Orleans is saturated with Catholicism. I’m Presbyterian and I have been asked numerous times ”what religion are you?” When my oldest began playing little league football, age 6, he came home and asked, ” Dad you know how you say a prayer before a game? What does‘Mother Mary full of grace’…mean?”

I told him I thought it was a Catholic liturgy or something, and then he said “Dad, I’m the only non-Catholic on the team.” It was a good lesson for me, given I might have known five Catholics growing up and they were regarded with suspicion.

Archie wanted to contribute to the pedophile fund and the Popes that help cover it up.
