Pretty sure Gus going to the SEC CCG in year one while ole Birt went "o'fer" has begun to divide the formally unified Arkansas fanbase

So your saying there is no regrets within the Arkansas fan base on the hiring of Belimia? That mone of the other forums have "questioned" the fact that even JLS had the ability to win at least one SEC game?

Boom, there it is. Stay off of Hogville.

No. Malzahn walked into a situation at Auburn where the talent was through the roof and the only thing 'wrong' was awful coaching. Arkansas, OTOH, was talent depleted.
Auburn has a history of being able to recruit both with and without Malzahn. Arkansas doesn't. And while Malzahn is a good coach he's also working with superior talent. If he'd walked into the mess at Arky it's doubtful he'd have much success -- he'd probably have a little more than Bielama but nothing that would catch the world by storm.

Thanks for breaking that down. I remembered that there were issues with the Springdale folks and that there was friction with Nutt when he was at Arkansas. His behavior at Arkie State does seem petty and small...and then he leaves after one year.
Good coach, but I guess we'll see if the baggage that comes with it is worth it.

Not gonna comment on the whole of your post because I have no knowledge of either side of the story. I do however find this quoted comment somewhat false based on the entirety of your comments....

If we want him in the future, we'll have him.
I still don't want his arse though and would've been pissed if we settled for the easy hire.
We'll see how this plays out down the road. He's had a miracle season this year, no way else to explain it.
Bert had a terrible year, but there wasn't going to be anyway around that either.
Let's talk in 2015 around this time of year and see what has developed.

Ok. I love these type of posts. Only if malzahn is fired then he would be. AU is a way better job than Arky and this year proves it yet again. Keep telling yourselves that Arky is an elite sec job.

If Gus was at Arkansas and went 3-9 this year (or even 5-7), and he would
Sure he would.
Gus Malzahn walked into his first year at Auburn and took a 5-7 clusterfrick Tuberville team and won 8 games with Chris Todd and his elderly shoulder setting Auburn offensive records. 110th in Scoring Offense to 17th. 104th in Total Offense to 16th. In one fricking offseason.
The man is an offensive wizard and can turn around any situation offensively. Look at Arkansas' current roster. They have strong running-backs. They have a capable offensive line. This is no different than Auburn's situation this year. Arkansas hires Malzahn, he brings Nick Marshall like he did at Auburn, they run all over everyone to at least 7 wins. Minimum. LMFAO @ anyone dumb enough to argue against this.

Still have never figured out though why the program is so horrible in bowl games in its history.
Part of it is the strength of conference issue from our SWC days. The old SWC was pretty much Texas, A&M and Arkansas and hot garbage after that, so we tended to get pwned in our bowl games because of a soft schedule.
After that it was Houston Nutt's lack of preparation, plain and simple.

Coog High aTm Texas Baylor were good enough to prepare you for teams that finished 3-5th in leagues. So that isn't an excuse.
Broyles Hatfield Holtz were bowl losers as well, so can't blame just Nutt for problems either.
It's a program issue not just coach issue.

Bielema brought in one those strong running backs and the bright spots on the line, not to mention Pittman who has turned over Olines before.
so basically, your two points dont exist in a world where Gus is our head coach.

I know a lot of people close to Gus, and to a man they say that he's ambitious as hell and that he has the Petrino characteristic of being a great coach but also not being long for a specific job. Our program craves stability right now, seeing as how we're on our 4th coach in 7 years, and hiring Gus comes with the inherent risk of being back at the drawing board in 3 years when a shiny new job comes calling.

Which is why I mentioned the issue of playing in the SWC conference and having a feather soft schedule that didn't prepare us well for bowl games.
