Funny, that's what was said about Katrina. Except everyone said, "It ain't gonna be Betsy."

I was there for both and each sucked. I was stationed at Ft Polk at the time and Rita was really worse for us deeper inland with the storms and tornados.
Two major hurricanes in back to back months was a kick in the nuts no matter how you cut it.

2005 was a hell of a year for hurricanes. You also had Wilma hit Florida and Texas IIRC as well as some earlier storms before Katrina.
There were storms still forming from December on into January 2006. Most storms on record ever.

Is it too early to talk about the tornado?

Gustav and Ike did the same essentially
I was doing disaster relief at the time.
I made so much bank for that month and a half after those two.

Remember when C. Ray called Gustav the "mother of all storms?"

Atmospheric conditions and thermodynamics are not in the parameters needed to form F4-F5 tornadoes with a landfalling tropical system, fortunately.

Ugh. More lost time and income. F 2020.

Gulf coast spots always look out for each other. Houston did it during Katrina. Louisiana did it during Harvey. You never know when your numbers gonna be called. Stay safe wherever these things turn and hopefully they just turn into thunderstorms

Looks like the most recent models show Laura headed even further west. Hou area, possibly cameron parish landfall. also a drastic intensity increase. Could be Cat 3. 2 models have it at Cat 4.
It sure always seems these storms overachieve intensity-wise when they reach the gulf. Id put money on it being stronger than a 1. Only time will tell.

I was born in baton Rouge and went back for 3 1/2 years as an adult with my job. I can remember putting towels at the bottom of our doors when we got a big storm. Two hurricanes back to back would have flooded us out.
I hope you guys stay safe and dry.

Watching this in Houston. It looks like Laura keeps shifting west. Marco also looks like it may even pass over Houston

I most certainly don't want them to hit the same area back to back, even if they are smaller hurricanes. I have family on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, just across the border from La., and it would utterly swamp them.
That having been said a Cat 4 hitting Houston dead on would be a disaster, particularly if the other storm does any damage to the New Orleans area.
If the Louisiana and Mississippi National Guard units get tied down in their own states and a major hurricane deals a severe blow to Houston it would be a race to get National Guard units from Arkansas and the rest of Texas down there in time.
I fear the Cajun Navy is going to log some serious hours one way or the other.

I live in St. Amant I don’t think it’s going to be that bad.

Not to worry. Word on the bayou says FCI Oakdale will allow Will Wade and Coach O to share a cell that will be equipted with a closed circuit feed. They will be able to coach while incarcerated. The only problem that has not been worked out is what to do if they have games that go into overtime. Rules call for lights out at 10pm but former Gov Edwards has knowledge on how to distract the guards, so it appears it will be OK.

When they meet up could it make them monsters? Not sure how that works.

Nah, they will push each other away because the left side and right sides of the hurricanes have winds in opposite directions.
Looks like they are going to be 1 after the other though.

I mean...if we want to bring Murphy's Law into this, yes - anything CAN happen. But there has never been a hurricane with a barometric pressure low enough to produce such a powerful tornado.
