There's a whole Shadow rulebook that only applies to Bama.

It's probably not that crazy. At this point in the season they aren't going to throw out the playbook Kiffin and Saban used, they just need someone else calling the plays in that book. And Kiffin wasn't doing a great job of it. Saban thinks Sark will.
You're trying to read this as the players will have to learn a whole new playbook.

"Participation" is the word to be expanded upon.
There is nothing against them being on the practice field or on the sidelines during games. Participation = Coaching.
Sark is always on the practice field when Bama is, and is on the field for warmups before heading to the booth.
Mike Locksley and Bobby Williams both are on the sidelines despite having "off the field roles".
