What other option was there? Announce he was leaving during the regular season?

Effort. You could see it in his emotions on the sidelines vs the year before. He was on a mission to move on. That’s why he did his E:60 PR tour over the summer.

I did not follow his time at Ole Miss as closely as you did (obviously), but I get what you are saying.

Thanks for replying, I knew this topic would be sensitive all things considered.

I'm actually surprised and appreciative that most Rebels fans in this thread gave me an honest reply.

LOL, best coach Ole Miss has had in 55 years. He took your team to the playoffs and OM was close to being in the natty. If he was still the OM coach your opinion would be considerably different.

No problem. We’re more than happy to have a civil discussion about football. We’re just not going to put up with the swamp trash part of your fan base.

B+ ....winning a playoff game would have made it higher. You can't give any modern CFB an A without a playoff win now...think that is very fair to say.

LSU Football fans are so starved for affirmation for their team, that they’re now begging for compliments for what their coach did at another program.

I would give him a fricking F for quitting on them at the end, any other answer is absurd. Any coach will tell you, it’s about how you finish.

B. I think he built some pretty good teams but inexplicably would do stupid shite like go for it on 4th down when he had no business doing it. Cost Ole Miss some games.

I was critical of his asinine play calling during his entire time at Ole Miss. How I feel about him has definitely not changed. Of course, with more talent you can get away with some of this dumbass shite.

Might work at LSU but didn't have that big talent disparity at Ole Miss and it cost them against some very good teams.

B+ is totally fair, but Lane coached them to an 11-1 regular season record and would have beaten Tulane in his first CFP game.

B-. He had a historically good record at Ole Miss. But it is hard to know, for any coach, how much is due to great coaching vs. NIL and the transfer portal. Ole Miss is not the only team who has been punching above their weight since 2021. As for his performance, his 13-25 overall record against ranked teams, 10-11 at Ole Miss, and lack of any championships drags him from an A to a B. An A coach would have at least made an appearance in six years. The way he left Ole Miss gets him the minus. Like it or not, the way he left is a part of his legacy.

And I would give Elko a B or B- because he tanks at the end of the season. Sorry but a B+ is really what the heaux deserves

Maybe an A-. An A is ridiculous

Lane Kiffin, 0 national championships, right?

That’s an F. Unless you were aiming for 7th, 11th, or 3rd place.

Is there a reason you left Johnny Vaught off? (Answer is “yes, there is”):

quote:

Johnny Vaught is the winningest coach in Ole Miss football history, compiling a 190-61-12 record (.745) from 1947–1970 and 1973. He led the Rebels to three national championships (1959, 1960, 1962), six SEC titles, and 18 bowl games. Vaught was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1979.

The Kentucky loss was the biggest head-scratcher and I agree it was inexcusable with that team.

Not really. Lane was chasing down spurned poon in Austin that week. Once you know that, it’s no head scratcher at all.

The 2024 Rebels had all the talent in the world. Coaching sank them, including a refusal to play our best RB the entire season.

B. Kiffin is a Good Offense Coach but makes some senseless decisions at times that cost him a Game. A lot of the credit for Ole Miss' success should go to Walker Jones and Keith Carter for their NIL movement. I think their success will continue.

B+. All things considered.

Potential is a dangerous word.
