Oh and

4. Tyrann Mathieu - "Pound-for-pound the best player on the field" and "playmaking machine" are two of my favorite quotes I've read about the rookie out of LSU in the last couple of days. He's made a play just about every day at camp so far. Let's see how that translates into the game.

Arizona Sports

good try

LOL at comparing an SEC DB from DBU to some scrub from Hawaii with a fake online SO.

You look foolish man.

LOL at you not realizing your foolish argument. TM7 is great, because he got an invite. Therefore, everyone who has ever been invited (Manti Te'o, Jay Barker) must also be great.

It doesn't mean anything.

I can quote more if you'd like?

Well he also won the Bednarik award. Was two forced fumbles away from an NCAA record as a sophomore.

Third-round draft pick Tyrann Mathieu has been one of the most impressive players in Arizona Cardinals training camp, showing natural instincts at cornerback, nickel back and free safety.

Mathieu carried that momentum into his first preseason game, collecting a 12-yard sack, causing an incomplete pass with a big hit and adding a 24-yard punt return in the fourth quarter of the Cardinals' 17-0 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

The early signs suggest the playmaking ability that Mathieu displayed at LSU is translating well to the NFL

While he's not as naturally gifted as Ed Reed, Mathieu does share a similar sixth sense on the field.

The rookie saw the bulk of his playing time with Arizona's second-string defense. That will change quickly if he continues to impress in practice and preseason action. He and Patrick Peterson have the potential to lead a dynamic Cardinals secondary.

Anyone monitoring Arizona Cardinals training camp couldn't have been surprised when rookie Tyrann Mathieu stole the show in Friday's preseason-opening victory over the Green Bay Packers.

Through one preseason game of his NFL career, Cardinals rookie defensive back Tyrann Mathieu looks like the same kind of playmaker he was at LSU, before off-field issues cut short his promising college career

Someone has to correct the incorrect info in this thread. Like your history of the Mathieu recruitment. See my post on page 14, Bucc.

Update OP to "CB's"

DBs is inaccurate since safeties are omitted from the list

Few things:

1) A CB is a football player. As a CB, Mathieu made more gamechanging football plays than any other CB I've ever watched. A forced fumble/strip is just as much a football play as an interception. To claim that he doesn't belong because he's not a good cover corner (a bogus claim) ignores any other plays he made as a CB. He became a Heisman finalist as a CB for making lots of football plays - as a CB. (P.S. rewatch his preseason game against GB to get an idea of his cover skills. He played nickel. He was on them like white on rice and challenged everything thrown his way. It was an impressive performance as a cover corner against NFL wideouts.)

2) I've seen Mathieu actually get burned in coverage in one game, and it was not the NCG. It was covering DaRick Rogers. Rogers made him look bad a couple of times. Those throws in the NCG were indefensible. Derelle Revis would have been unable to defend those passes from AJ. That game was an exception in Mathieu's career and an exceptionally accurate performance by McCarron. I give all credit to McCarron unlike Bama fans.

3) I'm responding to some very obvious trolls. But Mathieu became my favorite player to ever watch play the game of football during his time at LSU. I have never seen a player play with such raw emotion and have it actually translate onto the field of play. It's the way the game of football should be played. I think it comes from a very deep-seeded, insecure but genuine place from living a very hard life and his outlet was between the white lines. He plays like his life depends on it. He is the most entertaining defensive football player I've ever seen, and I don't give a flying frick if you disagree. It's my opinion.
