That list is terrible. Nashville last??? Athens at #7? No way in Hell is Starkville a better city/town than Baton Rouge, Oxford, Athens, Nashville, Fayetteville, and Auburn.
10-20 years ago, yeah maybe so. Times are changing pal. Starkvegas is finally getting the credit it deserves.

It may have changed...but it is not better than the cities I listed.

Apparently some folks think so.

In what way is Starkville better than Oxford, Nashville, Baton Rouge or Athens?

Nothing wrong with this list.
Looks just about right.
Some in shitty southern towns just refuse to admit they are in shitty southern towns.

From what I hear, Nashville is an awesome place to party.

I can't imagine a more shitty major college town than Starkville. The place is an absolute dump, although I do like their gameday atmosphere and tailgating.

Didn't read the complete article because any article that lists "best SEC towns for sports fans" that doesn't have Nashville at #1 is horseshite. I mean the city has an NFL and NHL team. Where else do you find even a hint of sports diversity in a SEC city or town.If you want to rank best sec college sports cities then name it that, but if we are talking all sports, college and pro, Nashville has to be hands down #1.

The list isn't comparing the cities in and of themselves...it is comparing the availability of everything a sports fan likes. Look at criteria
What helps Starkville is the amount of sports bars per capita to watch games, the student to city resident ratio, and the attendance of games. It is a good sports atmosphere. Oxford is a great party atmosphere...places like Baton Rouge are so large and populated that the sporting event isn't as big a deal.
The city may not be better than some others, but the focus on sporting events across the town make it a fun place on game weekends.

I like the way it takes into account attendance for football and basketball but leaves off baseball after everything else was taking all 3 into account.

Agreed, that would most likely bump State to the number 1 spot
