Miami
The thing Miami has working against them IMO is that the ACC has 2 already, the Big12 (a better RPI conference, #2 behind SEC) has 0, not to mention the Canes performance in their tourney. They're certainly a possibility, but I think that spot goes to the big12 (TCU or OklaSt).
You may very well be right about LSU having their spot already even with a loss, they'd definitely have a strong case over ole miss and rice even with a Sunday loss. That said, if there is any doubt, lsu could certainly remove it on Sunday by beating Florida.

Miami finished the regular season 27-3. They won the most conference games in ACC history. Them going 1-2 in the conference tourney, means they won 28 of their final 33 games.
I'm not sure any other team in the nation can say that outside of ULL.

So no Big12 team? I can see that, but I still think they give the Big12 at least one. I just don't think there would be any justification for giving the #3 conference three national seeds while the #2 Conference gets zero national seeds. ACC was waaay down this year, and Miami' RPI is simply not good enough.
We shall see tho. Anything is possible
I agree that MIami deserves it over TCU/OSU, I just see the committee trying to balance things out.

Too many smaller schools winning tourneys that weren't conference champions.

Don't think UF has much of a chance today based on LSU's recent offense. It's a good challenge after Kentucky to face another potent offense but Sully says they're going to run out 5 guys who haven't pitched yet.

I feel bad for Whitson. He made an honorable decision to go to college and it just hasn't worked out.

8. Louisiana State: What a wild past couple of weeks it has been for the Tigers. Just over a week ago, the Tigers were considered a team that needed to do some work to get a host site. Now, enough has broken their way that they have a very good shot to nab one of the top eight national seeds. It is not void of stiff competition, though, with teams such as Ole Miss, Miami, Cal Poly and South Carolina also in the mix, with Cal Poly and South Carolina looking the least likely right now. Going inside LSU’s resume, the Tigers are 43-14 overall, have an RPI of 8, are 4-7 vs. RPI Top 25, 15-12 vs. RPI Top 50 and 22-12 vs. RPI Top 100, in addition to an 8-2 record in their last 10 games. Though the Tigers have a non-conference RPI of 36, the committee absolutely could choose to hold a non-conference SOS of 269 against Paul Mainieri’s club.

Mississippi: Rebels fans will be discouraged to see LSU as the No. 8 national seed in this morning’s postseason report, but they’re still strongly in the mix for a national seed. As a matter of fact, if not the Tigers, the Rebels are my next choice. Ole Miss needs LSU to get knocked off in the SEC tournament finale. Meanwhile, Ole Miss has an RPI of 13, a non-conference RPI of 18 with a 128 non-conference SOS. Also, the Rebels finished the season 15-7 on the road, along with a 6-4 mark vs. RPI Top 25, 15-13 record vs. RPI Top 50 and 24-16 record vs. RPI Top 100. Additionally, don’t forget the Rebels finished the regular season as the SEC West Division champs, ahead of LSU, of course.
Miami: It’s hard to imagine the Hurricanes getting a national seed unless they leapfrog Virginia or Florida State. Should the ‘Canes get a national seed, that would mean either Virginia or FSU gets left out of the mix, or the SEC only gets one national seed. We don’t see those scenarios playing out. The Hurricanes have an RPI of 15...

SEC (10): Florida, Ole Miss, South Carolina, LSU, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas A&M.

NATIONAL SEEDS Changes from yesterday: TCU and LSU replace Miami and Mississippi as national seeds. The national seed race is getting really interesting. One team from the Big 12 deserves a national seed—it is the No. 2 RPI conference, and TCU and Oklahoma State have been two of the nation’s best teams in the second half of the season (neither has had a losing weekend in April or May). With the Cowboys and Frogs finishing 1-2 in the regular-season standings and then both reaching the conference tournament championship game, one of them must be a national seed.
quote:
If you assume the Big 12 gets one national seed, that leaves four teams competing for one spot: Mississippi, South Carolina, LSU and Miami. We’re crossing off the Hurricanes despite their ACC regular-season championship, as they are the lowest RPI team in this group, they have the fewest top 50 wins (11-11), and they went 1-2 in their conference tournament. Also, the SEC deserves a second national seed more than the ACC merits a third. As we wrote yesterday, there is very little difference between Ole Miss and South Carolina. But we now believe LSU has leapfrogged over both of them. The Tigers are up to No. 10 in the RPI (ahead of No. 13 South Carolina and No. 14 Ole Miss), and all three now have 15 top 50 wins. Sure, LSU played a weak nonconference schedule, with an 11-1 record against teams outside the top 200 (compared with Mississippi’s 3-0 and South Carolina’s 8-1). But the Tigers have overcome that deficiency in their resume by finishing third in the SEC during the regular season and steamrolling opponents in their last seven games, including a run to the SEC tournament championship game Sunday. They also took two of three against Ole Miss in Oxford, which helps. Momentum does matter, and LSU has a ton of it—this team is playing its best at the right time, and that is the separator.

Yeah, I feel bad for the guy. Made a big sacrifice to come to UF. He has a lot of potential but too many injuries to expect him to return to form.

Where is the ole miss fan who said LSU had no chance in hell of being a national seed. It still might not happen but it was funny how certain he was.
Posted on 5/25/14 at 10:55 am to bbap
Whether LSU gets one or not remains to be seen...but one thing is CERTAIN: that guy was wrong.
Lol
To be fair, our national seed hopes looked pretty slim to start this tourney (we were indeed on the mere regional bubble), but I don't think anyone - including myself - realized how close/jumbled 7-18 was until everyone starting really analyzing it closely and comparing resumes cross-conferences.
Also, it was hard to imagine OleMiss/Vandy/USC ALL shittin the bed in Hoover. Had just ONE of them performed even decently in Hoover LSU probably had no hopes of a national seed.
You are correct...anyone that said we had zero shot was talking out their arse and just being an idiot. it was a longshot, but there was always a chance. Fortunately things played out EXACTLY like LSU needed them to to put us in this position.

He said it halfway through the tournament. Vandy and Carolina were already out. It was funny.
