The SEC is only doing this because Alabama is crying so hard over it

Typical Bama logic. We lost so they need to change the rules.

One other option they ARE considering is lifetime bans for fans. That is already pretty popular in pro sports for jackass fans. This is being considered. Get caught on the field? Sorry, you can’t ever come back. Oh, you have season tickets? No, you had season tickets. Sorry.

There is a fundamental difference between a college football crowd and a pro-venue crowd. The vast majority of field rushers (not saying the vast majority of attendees) at a college event are college students. You think a drunk 20 year old will process a lifetime ban or even a night in jail as a deterrent to joyous revelry? I sure didn’t.

On the other hand at pro venues the majority of attendees are people with jobs who brains are at least slightly more developed. They have more to risk. It is much easier to keep those types of people off the field.

Only way to do it causes way worse other problems….see cages and soccer crushes.

Threaten a bowl ban or a reduction in scholarships and I guarantee each school will figure it out

The SEC won’t do this…..it could cost them (ie the conference and all members) too much money in the long term.

It would only happen once. Someone (probably Ole Miss) would be made an example and other schools would see they’re not fricking around.

They can't. Short of the National Guard they were never keeping the fans off either field.

True but you can destroy their "want to." There is a wide range of penalties the conference could impose upon offending programs involving future games. For example, banning the hosting of recruits on campus for the following home game. Fans don't care if their university loses 250k. They will care if their actions hurt their team.

Not smart

They aren't going to do anything to physically stop a field storm. They are going to do things to make fans not want to storm a field.

This thread will be fun to revisit if the court gets stormed after an Alabama basketball game.

Yeah man you’re right, a bunch of drunk teenagers are definitely going to be thinking about that after an emotional win.

If they can’t make them stop cussing during songs they won’t be able to keep them off the field. Sometimes the illusion of authority is more important than controlling every aspect of a situation. And nothing destroys the illusion of authority like making dumbass rules that nobody will follow.

And make no mistake about it, the first time that Alabama were sanctioned with these so called real consequences would be the last time anyone was.
