Im rooting for USC, LSU and Miss St to make it to Omaha, although I should root for Florida too because they are always an easy win if we get matched up with them.

I've not seen enough of LSU or Vandy to know a lot about them. I always look at the bullpen for tournament time. Pitchers can off days or an ump w/ a finicky zone can get them run.

Usually it's teams with a solid bullpen, can put the ball in play, and make good decisions on the basepath and the field tend to go far, and little bit of luck like a walk off HBP doesn't hurt either.

Honestly, LSU. The way they are playing right now is great. Still long way to go but they look the best now. Vandy would be my second.

LSU, Arkansas, and Vandy are obviously the cream of the crop for the SEC.

"Obviously."

lulz

In the meantime, for those of us who know and understand baseball, it goes more like this.

LSU appears to be the most complete team right now, especially at the plate. They have a strong group of sticks, very decent pitching and they are not too shabby on D. Their coaching is excellent and they are out to prove that they blew-it in the supers last year and that they intend to get back to Omaha this year.

Arkansas, excellent pitching, have yet to peak, suspect hitting and, at times, questionable D. Arkansas has yet to peak. If they peak at the right time they could easily make a run all the way to the top of the heap this year.

Vandy, maybe the most balanced team in the entire conference. Not overpowering at anything, but very good at everything. Solid, experienced, excellent coaching and playing with a lot of confidence right now. Still, not quite enough to win the big prize, although it would not surprise me in the least to see them in Omaha.

South Carolina, very young, very talented, still searching for their identity. Flashes of brilliance but then one of the young guys, be he on the mound, in the field or at the plate, will find a way to break the momentum. The Gamecocks are lacking a killer instinct we've seen from them over the past decade, but it is "obviously" there just waiting to come-out ... just not sure when, or against whom, it will happen. "Taking a step back" for South Carolina simply means not playing for the National Championship. A step back for South Carolina is going to the CWS and winning fewer than three games while there. SC's goal is, what it always is, to make it to Omaha and then see what happens. They have the talent, they might even have the offense before all is said and done, but I'm not sure they have enough arms right now. The starters are fine, and we've got a decent closer and one decent middle reliever, but I'm not sure about all the freshmen just yet, the other middle relievers and the two set-up guys. However, if they do come along then SC will be back in Omaha and that gives them another chance to win it all. BTW, SC is second to LSU in homers (by 1) in the conference.

Kentucky, a good team but they just don't have the horses to make a run deep into the post season. They're game though and they are going to spoil it for someone else before all is said and done. Could be Vandy, could be Arkansas late in the season.

A&M has a lot of potential but they are a middle of the pack team right there with Ole Miss and Miss State. They can make life dangerous for a visiting team to their place, and any one of those three might win the Big 12 or B1G Championship ... probably would for that matter. But in the SEC it's different and that makes those three good, above average by most standards, but not great.

PS: Florida, almost forgot about Florida. Florida is an enigma. They could easily make a late season run. They've had some injuries early and they've suffered from some chemistry problems from what I've seen of them so far ... but they are still talented, still tons of potential, and I dread going down to Gainesville this week. It'll be a battle no matter what. And if they catch fire, if they gain the littlest bit of confidence, then they could come-on late and make a run that could shock the world. They have the talent - the question is, do they have the leadership?

Right now the obvious answer is either LSU or Vandy, I'm leaning more towards LSU atm after that impressive sweep.

We'll know more about Arky & SC as the season continues, depending how Arky does against LSU this upcoming week will probably be a very good measuring stick.

SC atm, shouldn't even be in this conversation the way we've played as of late hasn't been even CWS material, the bats must improve along w/ the bullpen. W/ Montgomery coming back Beal can move to the pen, & Holmes after his impressive outing today should move back to the Sunday role, these upcoming weeks will tell us a lot about SC as a national contender once again.

Arkansas. They were #1 in the preseason

It's close between LSU or Vandy. I'd give the edge to LSU due to their 2-6 batters and the fact that Jacoby could get hot at any time and become our best player.

Just depends on who gets hot going into the postseason.

This.

LSU, Vandy, SC, Arkansas, and Kentucky all have legitimate chances.

I think it's LSU or Vandy right now. Although USC has started off even worse than this last year and made it to the final series, so you can't count them out. Any of those 3 are logical choices, but I'd say at this moment in time, LSU and Vandy have the best shot.
