Luckily I only ranked in the SEC footprint. If we attached national rankings to these.........

It would not be pretty.

And Savannah, though Savannah is also semi-3rd world, it's just incredibly gorgeous and cool.

The rest of the state is Alabama or South Carolina. Just goes to show how much of a damned powerhouse Atlanta is. Georgia is in the Top 7-15 in most state rankings almost solely due to Atlanta.

True. And Kentucky has 8% black people and that state still looks terrible in these rankings.

While not surprising, the OM fan's assertion that the black population is solely to blame for Mississippi's poor metrics is unfounded.

Are you using their ranking or their actual numbers?

Texas is #1 in GPD. Georgia is #3. So Texas would get a 1 and Georgia would get a 3 right? But in actuality Texas's GDP is 4x what Georgia's is.

Are you using obesity as a positive or negative metric? Because most fat people enjoy life because they aren't starving and eat lots of tasty arse food.

Eastern Kentucky (much like West Virginia, Southwestern Virginia and Northeastern Tennessee) is as impoverished and poor as any of the poor predominately African American regions of Alabama, Louisiana or Mississippi.

It's an incredibly sad place these days with the decline of coal.

Entire state 3rd world? little extreme. Plenty of money in Augusta. Plenty of it towards Lake Lanier and Lake Oconee as well. I could go on but there's really no point.

I had 3, 4, 10, 5. Could be different numbers or user error, wouldn't rule out either one.

Georgia has gorgeous areas outside of Athens and Atlanta. Not sure what you're talking about.

Augusta is very much an old Southern city like Montgomery, Jackson, etc. It has some old money but a lot of poor white and black folks.

There is money at Lake Lanier and Oconee, but most of it is Atlanta money.

Hell that's like people in Missouri saying take North STL city/county out and Missouri would be the best in SEC.

Everybody can name the blackest regions of the state to take out...Mississippi would still be last.

I think his point was if you removed Atlanta and Athens that Georgia would be down with Mississippi, Alabama, etc in this rankings, which is correct.

I agree, Georgia is a very pretty, diverse state. Gorgeous coast, pretty mountains, etc.

Solely based on # ranked out of 11 then divided by total number of inputs.

There wouldn't be much way to add together an Obesity Percentage, a GDP figure in the billions and a % of people with a bachelors degree without devising some sort of weighted average method, and lets just say I have some time right now on late lunch but I ain't got that much time.

Didn't say it wasn't pretty but a lot of the state is poor, uneducated and backward.

Yep - like I said - outside of the "Metro Atlanta" counties + Clarke, Georgia is the same as all the other Deep South states.

Well, we have the Delta. Take the Delta off that list and Mississippi jumps up in to top or near the top on this particular list. The Delta is predominately African-American. So basically if you make fun of Mississippi you are a racist.

You can't remove the worst part of Mississippi, and then compare it to other states that still have their worst aspects.

By that logic, Texas would be leading every category by a mile if you removed all the illegal Mexicans. They are part of the story though, so you can't do that.

Mississippi only has part of the Delta. We have most of the rest of it.

Also, GDP per capita would be a better metric than "state GDP", as would population growth as a percentage of population.

This guy said an oxymoron. Prestigious Black College. Note there are black colleges that are much, much better than other black colleges but none of them can hold a candle to any state university.
