54k is a good sized Midnight Yell Practice for A&M.

Actually, Autzen is more like 60k.
Not impressive I know, but on par with Ole Miss.
You should post the capacity for all Pac 12 stadiums if you want some better context.
Fans west of the Rockies aren't known for religiously following football.

Hey, I was told repeatedly that size doesn't matter. I guess those dudes were lying to me, but size sure seemed to matter when it was their turn.

Really?

It's funny how Mississippi carries the brunt of these "jokes" in the SEC -- when >5% of the entire population of the state is sitting in a football stadium in the state on any given Saturday that MSU, OM, and USM are at home. I doubt that there is any other state that is more interested per capita...
Nevermind that Jackson St and Alcorn average another 15k and 12k respectively...

No surprise that the stadium is only 55k. Oregon is full of a bunch of drunkard loggers and grungy dreadlock-sporting granola douchbags that believe organized sports are the root of all evil.

When filled to capacity....Tiger Stadium becomes the 6th largest "city" in the state of Louisiana

Auburn becomes 5th largest in Alabama. Suck a fat one, we win

Translation: they're going to be putting seats in whatever endzone UT is trying to reach, because there's really no danger of them succeeding.

True. But when I first moved here (11 years ago) it was only half a million more. Back then, Oregon State and Miss State had comparable stadium sizes (no longer true) and Oregon and Ole Miss had comparable stadium sizes (still mostly true).
The main point is that it's a challenge for both states to get fans to make the trip. There's a reason both Ole Miss and State used to play games in Jackson.
Certainly people in Mississippi are more passionate about football, dranking, fishing and hunting. But a 2 hour (or more) drive to the stadium for a large part of your fanbase is always going to be a challenge.
Every stadium in the Pac 12 that is bigger than Autzen is located in a major metro like Seattle, the Bay Area or L.A.

104,079 since 1996. Mike Hamilton decreased stadium capacity a little bit.
Record: 109,061, on September 18, 2004 (Tennessee 30, Florida 28)
For those expanding to 100k, congrats on catching up 20 years later.

Are you under the impression that places like Athens, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, or even Knoxville are major metropolises?

As discussed, people on the West Coast aren't generally as passionate about college football.
As for Athens and Tuscaloosa, both are located about an hour from the largest metro in their states. Knoxville has a metro of nearly 850k, the state of Tennessee has 6.5 million people and they are the major state school.
Auburn just happens to be in an insanely football crazy state. No denying the passion for football is way more intense in the Deep South.

I understand its not that popular out West, just doesn't make sense why the state of Mississippi can pull in comprable numbers with less national notoriety.

Both Davis Wade and Vaught Hemingway become the 3rd largest "city" in MS when filled and are knocking on the door of being the second largest...
The overall interest in MS is pretty crazy per capita. Just do not have the overall population -- and it's split too many different ways.

Comparing Oregon and Mississippi is like comparing apples to oranges. There isn't shite to do in Mississippi unless it's hunting season. Oregon is a paradise for outdoorsmen year round.

If somebody's willing to drive an hour to a game, you can bet your arse that most of them are willing to drive two hours to a game.

Alabama draws more than that for a spring game.
