Athens the stadium and game experience itself is pretty meh for a big 6
If you haven’t been in the past couple of years, it’s well worth revisiting. Pre 2020 it was definitely mid (and during the Richt years it was kind of a mess of students leaving early, the music sucked, too many old people sitting on their hands). Post COVID, it’s a completely different atmosphere for the better. It’ll never be Tiger Stadium but it holds its own with the rest of the Big 6

Did Billy Brice reduce seating? I thought I had seen multiple game attendance figures over 80k in the past.

The new renovations with high dollar seating in various "club" areas took out some seats for better amenities, but those numbers published also count the SRO on the spirals similar to yall's seating on the hill.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks.

Are you one of those idiots who would argue with a fence post?
Temporary seating was removed from the south end zone after the north end zone bowling in was completed. Old capacity was 72k and some change. New capacity is 76,000 as is shown in the 2023 media guide in my previous post.

I wonder what’s stopping Ole Miss, State, and Arkansas from increasing stadium capacity. All are underrated stadium experiences IMO

Arkansas just finished a renovation enclosing the north end zone. Total capacity only went up 4k. The only type of seating added was club seating, suites, and loge boxes for that enclosure. Arkansas has focused mainly on amenities inside the stadium for fans.
You can look across college football and see the empty seats every Saturday. With the ability for fans to stay home and watch any game they want now, I would imagine over the next 10-15 years most programs go the way of more amenities, premium seating, and less of trying to fit more in a small space.

Well there's plenty of fan interest when there's something to get interested about. But Mississippi's population is the lowest in the conference and Oxford itself is not a very large city and is not surrounded by a larger city. So we just don't need something in the 70s.

Yep, the extra 4,000 mainly comes from a bunch of SRO ticket options and club seating in the new NEZ. Not sure why anyone would think a 247 article would be more accurate than the team's official 2023 media guide that was literally just updated

Well we will finally play y’all there more often soon. I went in 04, 09, and 13 as an adult and 87 as a kid which I don’t really count. Never had a bad time or anything but the atmosphere never really popped for me. 04 was close.

Nailed it. Probably Mizzou’s best kept secret is the talent on campus. And yeah, September noon games are absolutely horrendous.

Which stadiums still don’t sell alcohol? There are still a handful that don’t aren’t there?

A&M's stadium isn't big enough. More than 70K+ students at the school, and more than 30M population at the last census for the state of Texas. Still enforcing the top 10% rule and it doesn't even matter...
I'm beginning to wonder when the school will stop growing. At least 20% of those seats will go to the current students.
College Station infrastructure will have to expand again soon. And at some point, too big of a school will be an issue. UTa just moved to a Top 7% rule because nowhere left to expand.

SRO has not been offered in the NEZ until this season, so that is not included in the official capacity. The capacity has been 76k since the renovation in 2019.
I'm interested to see if we can set a new attendance record with Big Red's and a couple thousand people up there. In the past, they only took alumni and recruits up there in small groups for certain games.

It's time for vision and planning rather than just doing a piecemeal half-assed approach. I would be on board w/ renovations that improve the aesthetics and experience but not necessarily the capacity. MS is a low population state and the University is in the middle of nowhere.

You obviously are not keeping up with the latest. Ole Miss was planning a major renovation to the Vaught but with the priority on the NIL now those plans have been put on hold. Face it folks kids no longer chose schools based on facilities. It’s all about the money.

The fact that they sell 101,915 tickets doesn't make it so.

Funds aren't an issue since we all get that SEC money.
State is at a disadvantage in that it's in the middle of nowhere. Average commute for fans coming in on game days is farther than any other SEC program. We do really well with what we have. My take is that as attendance numbers continue to decline across college football (and it's happening in the SEC too), you're going to start seeing some downsizing. I think State is right-sized for demand and comfort.
Ole Miss is much closer to the Memphis metro but they've always had a problem filling and keeping their stadium full. They also built their new basketball arena in such close proximity to the stadium that it's going to complicate future expansion efforts to the football stadium anyway. Truthfully, their stadium is probably right-sized where it is, just like State's.
In NWA, Arkansas definitely has room to grow as they are located in the middle of a population explosion. They need to put a better football product on the field though.
