Thoughts on the upcoming Softball season! Can anyone from the SEC take down Oklahoma? Who will dominate the SEC schedule?

Lady Vols seem to be the best in the SEC this year but I doubt anybody takes out Oklahoma.

Where does Vandy put the extra women's scholarships? Bowling (this is my serious guess)?

OU will be great again, and I can’t see anyone beating them in a series. They could drop a game or two, losing P Jordy Bahl was pretty huge. They replaced her on paper but that gal could pitch. Not only pitch but she was confident and stuck out batters mentally before they even got up to bat.

They have a lot coming back. But going for their 4th title in a row will be hard. Other teams will always have that motivation factor and every game is a final for opposing teams. You cannot have any off days.

I am looking forward to the new field opening on 1 Mar. Home games will increase fans from 1,400 to 4,200, so home field advantage will be even better for OU. Is any other SEC team expanding or building any new softball fields? I know SC has a really nice field.

OKC Talk took some drone pics yesterday, getting close. And workers working on Sun means they are pushing hard to have ready by 1 Mar.

Cool feature is the outfield scoreboard is shaped like Oklahoma

That looks extremely nice however I don't see how they could have that whole thing finished by March 1st.

The whole complex? No

The field and seating? Yes

Seats are installed. Some outfield seat work left. Mainly just need to grade and install grass. And outfield wall padding. And make sure lights are connected and water/plumbing/toilets working. The rest can be worked around afterwards but the games could be played. They have 32 days and are working 7 days/week.

And temps in 60’s all week. Sunny too

I believe UF has the top freshmen class this year, so I am curious to see how the youngsters do.

every OU fan is thinking the same thing but we have been assured it will by the AD. I think more than likely it will be playable but they will be finishing stuff behind the scenes through the season.

Georgia has a very experienced and powerful team this season.

Would not bet against them in getting back to the College World Series in Oklahoma.

I like to see LSU do well every year at the world series LSU bring alot of fans even when they dont make it. Its refreshing to see fans who just love softball and LSU has a bunch that do. I dont know much about their team but some people think highly of them this year.

Realistically OUs team last year which lost one game wont even go down as the best ever. Its probably going to be this years team. We return 6-7 All Americans and somehow got better at pitching even with losing Bahl. We has two elite freshamn in Maya Bland and Ellie Parker who are Jocelyn Alo like, DOnt know if i spelled their names right but they are elite. I like what Tenn is doing with their softball program they are getting more talented year to year and if their flamethrower gets hot the girl who pitches like 75 mph then they could go far again. UGA intrigues me they have alot of power and are one of the teams to actually beat OU in last 5 years.

Bama is going to struggle in sec until they cant get some power and hitting. They are losing their ace and it could be a long year for them.

The only SEC game we have this year is Miss State in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic 23-25 Feb. Next year (spring 25) we’ll start SEC play.

That's because OK has home field advantage. Everything is played there for heaven's sake. They do not have to travel. TN has a bonehead coach will also works against us.

I think the base and mounds are same distance for both teams. Same for homeruns. It’s actually closer to OSU than OU.

The team treats it like a road game and stays in hotels just like other teams so no home beds. It really boils down to who is best at softball and right now it’s OU.

UCLA, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, FSU are the only ones that have a remote chance of taking OU in a series. But they’re going to win it again, no doubt.

Ole Miss is renovating (really rebuilding it) their softball stadium, basically flipping it around (home plate is now where the right field foul pole was). Not sure what the capacity will be - think it's gonna be between 1500-2000, so still a small stadium.

It's interesting to see how many varsity women's sports each SEC (and future SEC) school has. Here are the Non-SEC women's sports each team has:

Alabama - Rowing
Florida - Lacrosse
Kentucky - Rifle, Stunt (apparently some type of Cheerleading)
LSU - Beach Volleyball
Oklahoma - Rowing
Ole Miss - Rifle
South Carolina - Beach Volleyball
Tennessee - Rowing
Texas - Beach Volleyball, Rowing
Vanderbilt - Bowling, Lacrosse

Note, Vanderbilt only has 8 SEC women's sports...the least of any SEC program. They are the only SEC program that does not have a Softball team.

SoftVOLS are back per the usual.

Pickens, the girl who throws 75-77 and Gotshall the other pitcher should do well this year. If Pickens can get her control down and sustain it over the course of the season, it should be another good year. They still have a lot of offense as well with Kiki Milloy.
