I think I remember reading that is the last year visiting teams stayed in Athens before games. Our fans were so raucous and fired up for the matchup that people stayed outside the bama hotel downtown all night partying, yelling, honking horns, and throwing shite at the windows that it kept their players up all night.
Ray Goff went on to win SEC POTY that year.

I dont get the miami refernce. was their 89 and 91 trophies considered crystal? I thought that the crystal thing started with the BCS (1998) or the bowl alliance (1992)

The crystal ball is.the Coaches' Trophy and has been given since the 80s.
