Prove me wrong. Look at everything O did before 2019 and everything he's been doing after. If anything, 2020 is the rule and 2019 is the exception. He's a bumbling buffoon who, like Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther movies, bumbled into solving the crime.

Stoops should be no lower than 5-6 on ANY SEC head coach list.

But, if there's a list for the guy doing the most with what he has, Stoops is #1 all day and twice on Sunday.

I'd probably put Orgeron at #4 and Malzahn at #5. While I personally believed Orgeron lucked into a national championship, you need to respect the ring.

By that logic, Gene Chizik would be top 5/6 in the SEC.

At this point in the season... based on this season alone... Pittman should be up in the top 4.

Now if you are talking rankings based on their careers to date at all schools then that would be quite a bit different. Not sure what the point of a thread like this would really be.

If I recall correctly there are 6 active coaches who have won a NC since 1998

Saban
Fisher
Orgeron
Miles
Swinney
Brown

So the three on that list who are currently in the SEC can pretty much tell the other 11 to go frick themselves... Start at #4 on your feel good list.

Shocking that the HC of the greatest team evah is merely the tenth best in the SEC.

Or maybe it’s not so shocking.

Gus has a NC appearance and moderate success in big games, even if he shits the bed every other season. More than the others can say. Pittman still TBD obviously, but hard to call him better 4 games into his career.

He had to have the best player on the field to get there and hasn't done much before or since

I was referring to 2013. It was a decidedly average roster.

Kirby is a great recruiter but a meh in game coach. I’d probably put him 3rd or 4th

For the most part, you could say the same about nearly all successful head coaches, including Saban and the top of the SEC. They’re good recruiters, good motivators, good at game preparation, but average in game coaches. If they do everything well before the game starts, they don’t have to be great when the clock starts. In the same sense, many great coordinators, Kiffin and Mullen in this case, are average head coaches.

Kirby has proven that he can sustain success because he’s better than average at the things I mentioned. His only real fault is that he can’t beat Alabama, but that’s not really a fair measuring stick.
