quote:

Judge Joel Pinson offered to donate land for development of this seat, and on July 8, 1836 his offer was accepted. Judge Pinson named the settlement 'Houston' in memory of Sam Houston, a childhood friend.

That's actually pretty interesting.

Approximate Distance of each from new geographic center of conference:

MS State = = 33 miles
Ole Miss = 44 miles
Bama = 95 miles
Vandy = 200 miles
Auburn = 223 miles
LSU = 268 miles
Tenn = 322 miles
Georgia = 322 miles
Arky = 329 miles
UK = 381 miles
MIZ = 394 miles
USC = 455 Miles
TA&M = 484 miles
FL = 488 miles
OU = 489 miles
Texas = 568 miles

Average is approx 318 miles and still just two time zones. Fairly cohesive...nothing like what the Big10 will be facing if they look to Pac12.

Agreed. I was surprised by UF's location relative to the rest of the SEC East. Putting UF in the same divisions as AU and BAMA balances their travel a lot more.

Adding TX and OK, combined with moving Mizzou to the West, and AU + BAMA to the East helps ARK, A&M, Mizz, and UF have a more balanced geographical distribution.

For shits and giggles, lose Missouri and pick up TCU and the geographic SEC West World Headquarters will be a double wide in the Independence Bowl parking lot in Shreveport
