m2pro, i'm not really mad, man. i don't expect you to know anything about LSU before your time, but stating as a fact that they've only had good sports teams in the last 10 years is inaccurate. an analogy would be a person your age that says alabama has never had a good football team. obviously, the had some good ones 15 or more years ago. peace. i still have a lot of piss and vinegar left in me, though. oh yea, i forgot to answer the question about respect. i respect georgia the most because of it's extremely high academic standing and it's great sports programs.

Wrong. Arkansas has 43 in track, no other school in the SEC comes close. We're number 5 overall for total national championships, number one in the SEC.

i was actually thinking earlier today when i first saw a couple of your posts how glad i was we had a cool older dude around posting this or that. it's always interesting to add different flavors of posts in on the mix.

and to give you a little perspective on my understanding of Alabama other than the history books... i see my dad and family freak out over a few games (mostly auburn games i remember)... then we get into an undefeated season and win the sugar bowl vs Miami... since then we've had a 99' sec championship and a couple other good seasons, but we've also been through multiple LOSING seasons... and finally, at long last, the Tide is rising for once in my adult life, and nothing has been more awesome. it's nice to be off the laughing stock list of names and actually playing hard hitting football. we're a real team.

I would have to say Bama because of the legendary nature of their football program and the Bear. I grew up as a kid in the 70's and Bear Bryant cast a long shadow over the entire conference. Not to mention the fact that it took 8 years from 1974 when I first started following LSU as a 6 year old until 1982 when I was a freshman in high school for LSU to beat Bama for the first time in my young memory. By the time we beat Bama in '82 I had come to believe that it simply couldn't be done. They seemed invincible back then in my young mind.

i guess it's redundant to say "past accomplishments.." i won't screw that one up in the future... but you know, i was basically trying to say the current status of the program being irrelevant for the most part.

Last I checked those are legitimate NC so must be counted if we're going to discuss all sports.

As for football, right now I respect UF the most.

Nah, I was just funnin witcha about LSU fans saying Bama fans live in the past.

I grew up with Bama dominating us. When I looked at that game on the schedule I counted it as a "W". Much more fun lately when it's wide-open.

Have a lot of respect for Bama's tradition.

Well, obviously that would have to be Alabama, they are easily the most storied program in the SEC. But I still hate them.

roflmfao... i mean, it doesn't -have- to be Alabama. several others have posted a good reason for picking VANDY of all programs.

m2pro, appreciate the words. i enjoy this board and most of the posters. just retired so i have a little time and i love college sports and i love the SEC (of course, i bleed purple and gold). i hope to bring a little different prospective, based on experience and, i hope, some objectivity. my son played college baseball (tennessee tech) so i've been around a lot of athletes and know something about their views and mainly that they are kids, young men, that are students, not pros. all programs have good kids. oh and i respect Alabama a lot. don't worry, you will witness some great success with Saban in charge. the cycle returneth. while all of that is fun, i respect Alabama for dramatically improving their academics and being one of the top public universities in the country. look it up.

ya'll success in track has been unprecipitated.

(just kidding; Arkansas is a great university and have some excellent sport programs. in my opinion, you do not get the respect you deserve and do not know why).

Simple really. Cuz we're the late comers to the SEC, and we were top dogs in basketball and track obviously when we came in so that created some jealousy, then on top of that we have been a mediocre football program with quite a few irrational fans who don't respect the SEC and think that we should be in the league elite when that isn't likely to ever happen so other teams fans look at that and brush off our entire program as thinking we're better then we are.

definitely legit... the original quote from the other poster was accurate though.

as weird as it may sound, since Arkansas won most of those titles in a different conference, LSU claims the most national titles for the SEC. But Arkansas does have more.

Arkansas has 24 national championships since joining the SEC. one in basketball, the others in track (this is after subtracting those vacated because of violations.)

LSU has 6 in baseball, 6 in track, 4 in golf, and even if we count their 3 in football. the count is 24 since 1992 for Arkansas, and 19 all time for LSU. Arkansas> LSU in national championships

um... you forgot a few.

LSU has 46 team national championships... 42 are recognized by the NCAA. So we'll go with 42.

ETA: Where in the hell did you come up with your number?
