I like no divisions but we’ll see how the tiebreakers shake out this year.

Going to nine conference games will be better.

Agree on 9 conf games. I also agree that they'll wait to see how the new playoff shakes out before doing anything.

Also like the idea of some kind of rotating competition with Big 10. Maybe every SEC team schedules 1 game w Big 10 team on same weekend. Would be fun and make some TV people a lot of money.

2 out of 12 years. More than most of the teams in the conference during that span.

Nah. I've always thought a division championship is a weird flex, especially if said champ doesn't win shite other than that. With no divisions that means a team that doesn't really belong landing in the CCG is no longer a thing.

Always love the SEC championship game, but was never a huge fan of divisions. It usually worked itself so two highly ranked teams met in the championship, there was always the possibility of a low ranked team making it into the matchup. I like the idea of the two best teams always making the championship game.

That’s the problem. You know that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

See 2011 Alabama, 2016 Ohio State, and 2017 Alabama.

None of them won their division and so none played in their conference championship game. However, all were still granted access to the BCS championship game or College Football Playoff.

Only issue is both would need the same # members.

Yup. Hince why I felt that last format should ONLY have conf.CG winners (but then how do you handle 5 conference winners?).

The winner of that game gets the playoff bye.

That's not really a 'bye', as they have to play the extra championship game.

If you are in the seccg you are in the field of 12..

4 conferences × teams is 8..you still have 3 more at large bids left..

I don't see an sec at large team going in over a ccg loser..

I remember when 6-6 UCLA played Oregon in the Pac-12 championship while 11-1 Stanford with Andrew Luck sat at home watching. You have to love those divisions. Then there was 6-7 GaTech who played a one-loss FSU team in their ACCCG, because a 10-2 Clemson team with only one conference loss couldn't go.

Many a time the 2 best teams in conference championships didn't meet. What was the point beyond money? And why wouldn't we make just as much money putting the 2 best teams together? That was Roy Kramer and other conferences and those idiotic divisions.

In this new age of expanded playoffs, we don't have time to play useless championship games. It still looks like the loser of the SECCG is at a big disadvantage having to play that extra game.

Also curious who is LSU's main rival? Is it Bama?

It’ll vary depending on age group but it’s probably Ole Miss. They’re our historic rival and most of us grew up with parents that hated the Rebs so it kinda stuck.

No real hatred for Bama. I’d say we dislike Florida more but maybe that’s just me.

There is a way to function like a division.. with the 3/6 Model

Half the Teams on "LEFT" / Half the teams on "RIGHT"

Each team has 3 Permanent Opponents
1) Same Side
2) Other Side
3) Other Side

Schedule
1) Even Years - Same Side (7) + 2 Perm from Other Side
All teams within a division play the exact same 7 opponents + 2 perm games from the other division

2) Odd Years - Other Side (8) + 1 Perm from Same Side
All teams within a division play the exact same 8 opponents + 1 perm game from the same division

See example of below. This is just one example.

It's honestly really simple and about as fair as you can get. You just have to figure out a way to determine the 3 permanent opponents.. then put the puzzle together. IE It works a lot better if LSU and OU are Perm Opponents instead of AL and LSU.

If you watch these threads, you’d think aTm. There’s a lot of back and forth between these groups.

Traditionally it's Ole Miss though.

The only way the championship game would be eliminated is for someone to figure out how the SEC could make more money doing something different. At the end of the day what the fans want does not matter.

There’s a list of teams I want to play annually, a list I want to see semi regularly, and a much longer list of SEC teams that I don’t care if we play or not. The conference has a much longer history starting from the beginning of teams playing rivals and missing others. The obsession with getting to everyone is new.

I vote "no." There's no point in divisions and it makes scheduling headaches. Without divisions, we have the ability to play more of the conference regularly. Keep 2 or 3 annual games and let the rest rotate.

It would take a wizard at negotiation but give us 3 perms and 2 we see every other year and rotate the rest.
