O was the best "fit" for LSU and he tanked the program in two seasons coming off the greatest season ever.

When you think les miles and Ed orgeron, do you think multiple national championships, a Heisman, and owning the hogs? If not, your predictions are less reliable than a hand reading psychic.

Other than Riley, he was as good of a coach as you could have gotten.
Posted on 1/27/22 at 6:31 am to white beans
I think he will do fine - have them in contention every few years or so.
Posted on 1/27/22 at 6:33 am to white beans
Meh, time will tell. He has the tools but am not sure on the ability.
Orgeron proved he can recruit like a mother fricker and is a decent coach when he has talent. I personally think it was a mistake to dump his dumbass. He started chasing the poon and forgot about his job. AD should have read him the riot act, cut his pay and set some criteria. I think he would have refocused and righted the ship. It was either a knee jerk by the AD or the big money donors told him to get rid of O.

Yes, doubting compared to the rest of the conference. Anything is possible. Not hating, but Kelly doesn’t scare anyone, and that’s reasonable.

I think Kelly is a good coach. He has had success at every stop so far, I see no reason for that not to continue. I do however think it takes him a couple of years to adjust to the SEC but that should be made easier due to LSU having plenty of in state talent that wants to go play there.

since you ask: Riley at LSU would have concerned me. Kelly not so much.

False. Hes been to the playoffs and had his arse handed to him.
He won two national championships at Grand Valley State and had another championship game appearance.
He took Central Michigan from being a losing team to being a bowl team.
He was 34-6 at Cincy and had them at 12-0 prior to going to ND.
He got ND to the playoffs and has had them in the national picture. The list of coaches who have gotten to the playoffs is pretty short.
His overall winning percentage as a head coach is .728.

Losses: Alabama, at Arkansas, at Texas A&M
What are expectations for Brian Kelly in Year 1 at LSU? We can tell you what's expected inside that program will be equal — if not higher — than predictions surrounding the Tigers from a national angle. The obvious barometer matchups against Alabama and Texas A&M stick out, but there are a couple 50-50 games on LSU's schedule that could make the 2022 campaign go from good to great.

When Kelly left Notre Dame to take the job at LSU, the college football world was stunned. There are some concerns about how Kelly will fit in Baton Rouge, but LSU has more than enough resources for him to win a national championship. Kelly’s resume is incredibly impressive, and three different coaches have won a national title with the Tigers since 2000. Kelly could very well make it four.
In 12 seasons with the Fighting Irish, Kelly owned a 113-40 record including a 5-5 record in bowl games. As he begins his rebuild of the LSU roster, Kelly told the ESPN broadcast crew during the Texas Bowl that he plans to prioritize Louisiana and the surrounding areas in a big way.
"I think it starts with the geographical recruiting base, certainly the ability to recruit the state of Louisiana that has incredible talent, recruit that area, first and foremost, recruit your base," Kelly said. "I was used to going across the country to have to recruit. To be able to recruit the state of Louisiana and that area is really going to be an important piece for us and I'm excited about that."

2022 transfer portal additions (11): Mekhi Wingo, DL (Mizzou); Noah Cain, RB (Penn State); Tre'Mond Shorts, DL (East Tennessee State); Jay Bramblett, P (Notre Dame); Greg Brooks Jr., CB (Arkansas); West Weeks, ATH (Virginia); Joe Foucha, S (Arkansas); Mekhi Williams-Garner, S (Louisiana); Miles Frazier, OT (FIU); Slade Roy, LS (East Carolina); Kyren Lacy, WR (Louisiana).
The word: First-year head coach Brian Kelly is in win-now mode with this transfer haul and has landed several immediate-impact players including pass rusher Wingo from Missouri, cornerback Brooks from Arkansas and Penn State tailback Cain. The Tigers should be a factor in the SEC West race by ensuring they've filled major voids with already proven talent.

It's proven that Kelly is awful against ranked teams
LSU took the worse coach in Ole Miss history and made him into a national champion. LSU took a coach from Okie State with a 24-14 overall record and made him a national champion, played for a 2nd, and had multiple conference championships. Both of the previous coaches mentioned were terrible against ranked and unranked teams prior to landing at LSU.
This is the best coaching staff top to bottom LSU has had since 2004, it's not hard to see why fans are optimistic.
The recruiting alone in the last couple months is bordering on a miracle based on where the team was in early December... Very real chance to be ranked in the top 5 in a couple weeks...

Not at all. We have an adult in charge of the football team for the first time in 17 years, and the past two idiots still managed to win a NC.
So much disrespect for the second-most winningest coach in your school's history. The dude brought you a NC and has been gone 5+ years, yet many of y'all still feel the need to dis him? Real classy.

Sounds like he should stick to the minor leagues then as it has been shown over and over on the biggest stage he can't get the job done.

L2U then drug him down to a losing record the last 2 years. This talking point is dumb.

don't think too hard on this one. O left the team with 38 available scholarship players for the bowl game. he was a detriment to the program. woodwards only mistake to me was letting him coach after firing him.

I didn't miss that. But no one is perfect, and I would bet even Saban has misdiagnosed a player's ability once or twice. I just know, having lived in Louisiana for many years post and pre Saban, how much pride Saban brought back to the state and then Les continued that for a good time. I just think the man deserves a little more respect than he gets, from many, regardless of his last couple of years. Same goes for O and even Nutt for us. Even though he never won us anything, he was the right guy at that time.
Posted on 1/27/22 at 8:53 am to PineyWoodsHog
Nutt just worn out his welcome and the big whigs didn't want to improve on the current status and better coaches got away like Butch Davis. Then it just got worse with the drama after a disappointing 2003 season. The 2004 and 2005 years were a good opportunity to make a coaching change but the horse was beaten to death.
