Let's say Kentucky finishes top 3 in SEC - do you penalize them because they played a non conf schedule that most teams aren't even close to?

For 1, this Kentucky team sucks. They aren't ripping off a big SEC run. Alabama dominated them on the road with 3/5 of our starting lineup out.

For 2, their issue isn't losing to Kansas, Louisville and UNC. It's that their only wins are Morehead St, Vanderbilt, Mississippi St and Florida. And they lost to Georgia Tech, Richmond and Notre Dame.

They just aren't very good and their resume isn't very good. If they somehow rip off wins vs LSU, @ Alabama, vs Texas, vs Tennessee, vs Arkansas, @ Tennessee? Sure, they'll probably have a NET in the top 50 and be in the discussion even with a record of 12-10 or something.

Hate that the injury bug has hit us as we were hitting our stride playing our best basketball in years. Gonna be a tough few weeks or so. Oats has recruited & developed a deep bench so that helps & showed against Kentucky the other night with 3 starters down.

Not having the time in the summer and the season being somewhat abbreviated has hurt UK more than most due to their lack of experience. I don't see them getting an at large birth but I could see them finally gelling around SEC tourney time and making a deep run there. They have talent.

They were miserable. No shooters, bad on ball defenders, Cal's slow plodding pace.

I think you are right about preseason, specifically on the defensive end. Generally his teams take time to figure themselves out on offense, but they usually always play really hard, good team defense. They were physically unable to stay in front of any of our wing guys - even guys like Shackelford who are not Kira Lewis quick.

I'm ready for all the

"All Cal does is roll the balls out"

But it seems be an issue with Arkansas at times as well. The chemistry is just really off and it makes sense if you are using the same logic.

Arkansas was 341st in returning production, just 6 spots above Kentucky. Having said that, bringing in 3 grad transfer should help relieve some of that and has but still is a recurring issue.

I have no doubt we would've beaten Kentucky if that game wasn't postponed. Literally right where we would've wanted them. Yet here we are, with only 5 games under our belts on January 14, 2021.

Yep - I mean Alabama had a pretty experienced team returning with Herb, Petty, Shack....and we looked very much not in sync until SEC play started. Our team defense was bad, our offense was stagnant, everybody looked like they were overthinking everything. Then it kind of clicked and everyone started playing fast and without thinking.

Probably quite a few teams that have had those issues this year - especially teams without much returning experience together.

What is up with Quinerly?

Nobody knows, but given the timeline and the way Oats has discussed it we are assuming COVID - and probably symptomatic COVID. It wasn't a hard and fast timeline thing like you generally see with a non-symptomatic case, so you have to think he was waiting to be symptom free. Oats thinks he will play Saturday but isn't positive.

Of course it could be something else, but that seems the most likely thing.

We badly need him Saturday. Going to be tough to beat a NCAAT quality team without 3 of our 4 best players.

Makes sense. I think Alabama is pretty likely to make the tourney but to make a run he's a piece that needs to be available. I have an unhealthy man crush on Herb Jones but he can't provide some of the things that a true pg like Quinerly can.

Yea, we need Quinerly pretty badly. Primo stepping up lately and showing an ability to handle the ball and run the point has been a very nice development, but it would not be good to have to pigeon hole him like that (or Herb).

Losing Bruner is a pretty big blow - he's kind of the glue dude on both ends. Hopefully he's back by mid-February.

Our depth will be put to the limit on Saturday. Hopefully we have them both both (Q and Herb) when we go to LSU.
