Once the batter is thrown out at 1st, it is no longer a force out for the runner already on 1st. He can stay at first or run to 2nd. If he runs to 2nd, he'd have to be tagged out (no longer a force out).

Agree, but he's a closer and he's about 25 pitches past where he's gone all year long. I'm not sure what he has left in the tank.
