Doesn't matter if it was for two weeks. NCAA records is NCAA records.....that's CWS wins in a row, and overall post-season wins in a row....

I am talking about on the national stage
LSU went from a fringe power to a national power in that regional.

Ben McDonald was probably the player who benefited the most but the entire program benefited.

It put college baseball on the map to another level.

He became a known name overnight.
ESPN had a lot to do with it all the time because it was promoting college baseball.
aggy had I believe 3 losses all year and LSU beat them in their own house thanks to Ben McDonald.
He became the #1 pick in the draft

el gato has it exactly right.

LSU Baseball was a national power by 1986 before we made that trip to College Station. What LSU did in that 1989 Regional was amazing, an amazing effort. But it didn't "make" LSU Baseball. It is just one in a long line of amazing performances by Bertman's teams and by many, many fine LSU baseball players.

Ross Delenger is a very good writer, but he was nowhere around LSU in the 1980s and 1990s. That article was an attempt to link a #1 vs #2 LSU-A&M series in 2015 to some history. He did not do it. Anyone who was around LSU in the 1980s and 1990s can tell you that.

On the national level that is untrue.
ESPN really got into college baseball at this time and LSU went from someone that a few knew about to ESPN talking about LSU and Ben McDonald.
Ben McDonald had more buzz going into the majors than any pitcher I can remember.

This helped LSU recruit and helped LSU win NC in the 1990's.

Going to the CWS isn't the same as being there and everyone talking about you.
Who knows Washington was in the CWS last year...

I mean...I guess if two years is a "considerable time"
well let's take a look at Gamecock baseball since the 2000 season to present day.

6 CWS, 2 CWS titles, 2 National Runner-up, NCAA record 12 consecutive wins in Omaha as well as 22 consecutive wins in the tournament. 15 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

South Carolina has 338 SEC regular season wins since 2000 and has put an end to LSU's (twice), Arkansas' and Florida's seasons in Omaha during that time.

NCAA tournament appearances since 2000 (19 seasons) - SC 17 LSU 16.

by the way, South Carolina was winning games in Omaha 11 seasons before LSU made its first-ever appearance at Rosenblatt.

I fully agree.
