Looks like SEC will go to 9 game schedule. Not sure I like that until espn acquiesces to $ deal when we added Texas and OU. I dont really care if the big10 has nine game schedule or not. Theres no rule about it so SEC commish should stop pleasing everyone.
Also this certainly spells the end of the big12 and ACC.
I assume if UNC to big10 is a certainty, then Clemson and maybe FSU to SEC Is going to happen.
I do not think the sec expands any further west Than Norman or Austin.
But expanding via ACC teams is a possibility.
I don’t really want to expand any more but I cannot foresee the ramifications of having the following programs in the big10 for recruiting:
UNC
NCSU
VT
Clemson
fsu
Miami
Josh Pate’s conferences of 10 or so teams in each league are the best thing for college football but this seems like a pipe dream now.

If the SEC/B1G reimagined the playoffs to the exclusion of the lesser teams, 9 conference games and SOS would suddenly matter again. Count me in.

Right now the problem is there’s not enough play in between conferences to satisfy the question of which conference is best.
I would go the 9 conference game route, then use the other 3 to play one team from each conference, then use the resultant conference standings to determine how many teams from the conference goes to the playoff. Could do 5,4,3,2 guaranteed from each, then 2 at large which “could” include a non-P5 and Notre Dame.

So on top of acc rivalry we could have this too possibly?
Depending on team could be interesting (though we struggle with the mac as is some years so bye bye bowl bids). Somehow I have a feeling we will be stuck playing Rutgers or Washington rather than IU though

Eh, why not? They can't screw it up anymore than they have and this might actually help.

I have seen an idea that is similar to some soccer league in Europe.
Year 1
B1G gets 4 playoff teams
SEC gets 4 playoff teams
Big 12 gets 2 playoff teams
ACC gets 2 playoff teams
G5 gets 1 playoff team
Wildcard gets 1 playoff team
If the B1G performs above expectations, they get 5 next year. If they perform below expectations, they get 3 next year.
Same for all the other leagues. So if the ACC starts kicking arse for the next 5 years, they will start getting a lot of teams into the playoffs each year. Just need a floor and a ceiling for each league.
I like the idea behind this.

So, you want the B1G with 8 more schools than the SEC?

So UGA could only play GT, Fl. play FSU, SC with Clemson, & Ky. with Louisville in whatever conference that is?

I think it would rotate through the conference…not 1 dedicated team.

Correct, and the rest of the ACC would rotate among the other teams, and if similar rivalries exist in other conferences could do the same.

They wouldn't take those schools if they went to 24 teams.
19) Notre Dame
20) UNC
21) UVA
22) Florida State
23) Miami
24) Georgia Tech/Duke
They will only take AAU schools. That means they will never take Clemson, VT, NC State, West Virginia, etc. Miami, FSU & Notre Dame just got AAU status recently.. and that is no accident imo.
----
If the SEC is forced to expand, UNC should be the #1 target imo *
17) UNC
18) FSU
19) Clemson
20) Miami
* assuming Notre Dame is off the table

I would use the outcomes of the same season to determine how many teams the playoff gets. That would make every game matter. Vandy vs Wake could be the difference in one conference getting an extra team in the playoff.
So if at the end of the year, The SEC goes 28-18 and Big 10 goes 25-21, then the SEC would one more team than the big 10 that season.

Drawback is WHO do you take a team from if the SEC &/or B1G perform above expectations?
Do the G5 & WC NEVER lose their teams?

I would assume they have a floor of 1.
B1G, SEC, ACC, Big 12 split the other 14 based on results, but all are guaranteed at least 1.

But isn’t that unfair to those 8 teams NOT to play another team?

That could be a variable as well.. but in your scenario, if the SEC has flopped in the postseason for a few years, I don't know if the current season results should outweigh the flops of the past..
Either way, a computer formula would just need to be developed.

MAJOR ISSUE B1G has:
They really want ND, but HOW LONG will they wait before choosing someone else?
& is there a stopping point? What if ND becomes free after they reach it?

They have some deadweight.. idk if they would cut them loose though..
Northwestern
Rutgers
Those would be the 1st two to go imo.

Isn't it really an issue ND has? In the current format they cannot get a bye, which I would assume has to piss off the ND brass.
The new system is going to guarantee at least 4 teams from the top two conferences. I don't love it because this season you would guarantee have a 9-3 team in the playoffs and in all likelihood will have that most years.
If you are going to diminish the regular season some, I think it should kind of be a 10 win minimum. That encourages big games OOC to continue being played, but also still emphasizes winning the games you need to win. Of course you could have a bloodbath season in the top conferences where the only teams standing at the end of the year have 3 losses.

I have to agree they the sec will entertain ND.
ND will also play the two super conferences for the better deal if it is available. I do not think the sec will offer any special deals and they ultimately go big10……if they join at all.
It’s a sweetheart deal to be independent and host a CFP game, bye or not. I hope the big10 and Sec address that.
