Maybe down the line…way down the line…there’s a system of the top 30 teams at one level, the next 30 or so the next level down, etc.
But I’d have to think there’s a lot of figuring things out before you get there.
I’d think for the foreseeable future the sec/big10 are happy running things with teams under their banners.

The nostalgia of it is severely tarnished with all this. Turning a lot of people like myself off to college football honestly
I feel the same damn way. I looked forward to every season like a kid for Christmas Day. I’ve had season tickets almost since graduating. It was always the one thing I’d spend whatever I had to make it to any game, and it’s not cheap coming from Houston.
Now I give away my tickets to friends and family. It’s not the same. My interest in LSU football is closer to basketball than baseball at this point.
And I’m sure many others here have been “hit up” by their schools harder than ever. Get ready Louisiana, traffics going to be rougher for a while, injury attorneys need that NIL money.

could see the SEC and Big 10 adding a small handful of teams each, but nothing major. Maybe topping out at 16 teams each?
SEC has 16 already.
B1G has 18 now

I was watching YT videos last night. Interesting how B1G shows were trashing GS when they’re in the same boat as the SEC.

There’s talk of them taking ACC members & now talks of some XII/ACC partnership.
I also point out on those videos how it’s interesting they always talk about NC/NCST & Va./VT as pairs to the SEC yet ONLY mention NC & Va. to the B1G. HOW do they say they can ONLY be broken up depending on which conference they’re going to?

That was a brutal Playoff selection show last season for many SEC fans. You can't have teams who are barely in the top 20 and have them jump legit top 12 teams all season and expect this format to survive. I hate CCGs. Boise State battling it out with the likes of #19 UNLV for a playoff spot and a playoff bye was a testament to stupidity. 3 loss Clemson and Arizona State vs Iowa, 2 teams barely in the top 20, battling it out because their conference is just that bad, to see who replaced better and higher ranked SEC teams, let all football fans know we were no longer looking for BEST teams for the NC.
It is time to go.

Alot of posters are sticking their head in the sand when it comes to relegation.
When money is driving everything relegation will happen and “charter member” BS goes out the window.

So, you would be fine with schools competing against others 2X their enrollment?

But HOW do you break them down…geographically?
They tried to do that with the largest hs sizes here in Ga.. ONLY 4 schools were located BELOW Atlanta.

quote:It's not the NCAA that is mandating equality between male and female scholarship numbers; it is (or has been) the Department of Justice. Getting out of the NCAA will have zero effect with regard to Title IX (which needs serious reform, but this isn't it).
One key point is the private financing that they are looking into. Reading between the lines, they want to get away from football being counted in title 9. If football breaks away from the NCAA and privately financed, that will open up more spots for men's sports. Schools like Ole Miss are missing a ton of men's sports because the women's sports is a drain on the budget and for every male spot, you have to have a female spot
I'm agnostic on whether the SEC and Big Ten should take football out of the NCAA, but I do find it interesting that we are just talking about football. They don't want to kill the Final Four, or Omaha, etc., and that's probably the right move.

The more I think on this, the more I think this could be good… if done correctly.
The problem with CFB today is it’s trying to be half professional and half amateur, and the mixture just doesn’t work. We need to go full on NFL model to make it work. Draft, contracts, etc. I know that sounds cringy but we’re basically there now just with no structure.
Here’s how I see it:
Two leagues: SEC vs Big 10. (Basically like the AFC and NFC.
20 teams each split in 4 divisions of 5 teams each.
Play your divisional opponents annually, plus two additional annual teams from within your league to protect some rivalries and to help even out the schedule strengths.
Then play another 6 games that rotate still within each league. Every team would play every other team in its league at least every 3 seasons.
Then do a 16-team playoff played on campuses culminating with a National Title Game to be played on a neutral site between the SEC and Big 10 champs.
Sell the tv rights to 3-4 different networks and put the other games on an NFL network subscription type platform where you could have access to all games.
Tell the networks that if they want access, they must give Thursday nights back to CFB and have two games on Thursday nights. The NFL can have Sunday and Monday. CFB should have Thursdays and Saturdays.
SEC Coastal: Georgia, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State
SEC Gulf: LSU, Florida, Floroda State, Ole Miss, Miss St.
SEC Central: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Vanderbilt
SEC West: Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss
——-
BIG 10 Pacific: USC, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, UCLA
BIG 10 Atlantic: Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Rutgers
BIG 10 East-Central: Notre Dame, Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana
BIG 10 West-Central: Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois
The Top 40 or so other programs left out could consolidate and do an exact replica of the above model just with 40 lower tier programs and probably be attractive enough to also get a TV deal that could fund their division also. They wouldn’t be paying out much money at all to athletes so their costs would be much less

Where’s “Clean Old Fashion Hate” (UGA/GT)?
How about Kentucky/Louisville?

This definitely screws the mountain state schools and rest of the big12 and a lot of the acc. But it seems the most likely thing to happen.

I think the SEC and BIG10 have to shed some members before this happens. There are still some attractive programs like Clemson and ND out there. FSU probably not left out either. SMU could buy membership. Other considerations as well
