Yes there are better parks in sec country. Just not in the state of alabama.

You do understand that VanHorn uses Hoover as a rest period right? Last year was a prime example, out early and rested 4 extra days, we weren't in danger of hosting due to our mid season swoon and we rode fresh pitching to a damn fine showing in the CWS.
Get that tournament out of Hoover and I'll consider going back. Autozone Park in Memphis FTW!

I don't like this format one bit, for 2 reasons.
1)For starters, why the frick are we gonna reward a team that finished 12th out of 14 in the league? At that point, it should be fairly obvious that that team sucks pretty bad and has no business in the postseason. That'd be like letting a 4 win football team in a bowl game.
2)I hate that it starts as single elimination for almost everyone. That's one of the great things about the tourney, everybody has hope. You may lose the first game but hey..you aren't done yet. You can regroup and still make a run at the thing. Now, a team who finished 5th (and with as good as some of these teams like LSU, SC, UF, Arky, UK, etc are, the 5th place team could actually be really good) could head out after only 3 hours. That just doesn't seem right.

Surely there is a more attractive minor league park than this in the SEC?!?
The contract with Hoover is longterm, but it could move to Downtown Birmingham.

I am all for moving it to Frisco. Dr Pepper Ballpark is the fricking shite. You can have a pool party in right field. I'd love some Georgia sorostitutes taking that thing over.

frisco? like in texas? yeah that wont happen. if it moved it would go to memphis or new orleans most likely.

It will stay centrally located. It has been in Hoover since 1998. It was held in Columbus, Georgia in 1997. SEC host cities before that.

yeah. at least it appears birmingham is building a new park. just move it there and then rotate it so its not in the same city every single year.

I've done a little bit of looking into Regions Field. It looks pretty damn nice.
It's interesting that in this article, they look at Oklahoma City for what this part of Birmingham could become. I've never been to Birmingham, but the area around Bricktown in OKC is phenomenal. You can park your car for the week if you want to and walk everywhere. There a Hampton Inn just behind the left field wall. It's a 500' walk back to the hotel after games, and there are restaurants and bars all around the neighborhood.
One gripe from the picture below. I wish that they would try to incorporate a little more non-luxury seating in the infield. It's always been my experience that people who want to sit in suites or in club level don't give a shite about the games and would pay a premium for the luxury in less prime locations. Look at the Zone at Kyle Field. People donate almost $3k per seat per year to sit in the end zone.

My bad...opened this thinking all the alters on this site were having a baseball tournament. Disregard.

Time for LSU to restore order.

I had assumed that the SEC had an eight team tournament. Ten teams is certainly enough for a 14 team league. I would hate to be one of the four teams to trek all the way to Birmingham only to be one and done.
I can't imagine a day when the NCAA would take more than ten teams from the SEC. This seems like a completely pointless expansion to me.
The most enjoyable tournament format, IMO, is the old NCAA six team regional format that they used through 1998. That's the size that the first two Big 12 tournaments were as well before they expanded the post season from 48 to 64 teams.

Things have to eventually happen in the DFW Metroplex eventually. There are more people there than there are in about 5 SEC states combined.

Yes, but how many people in DFW give a shite about the SEC or more specifically SEC baseball?

Please lord, do not move the SEC tournament from Bham. I go every year. It is one of the only things I look forward to sports wise in May besides Reds baseball.
