I think you should wait until the NCAA rules on Kiffen before you say your program will be unscathed.
We may get put on probation but I don't see much else happening.

I know it's just BS and other team's fans just see it as an opportunity to give shite but the LSU player never even stepped foot on the field, barely on the practice field, and the coach was fired as soon as the year was over. What other program has self-imposed anything for that matter

Yeah, we can throw qualifiers in to "explain" how so and so's cheating is DIFFERENT or LESS SERIOUS than the other guy's cheating...but its all still cheating.

There certainly were violations regarding calls that in reality had nothing to do with illegal benefits, etc. There was no showing of intentional violation nor any effort to obtain an unfair advantage, which is why no big deal was made of the calls.
The intial reference was to the coach at LSU who did provide improper benefits to a recruit/signee, but who never played a down, unlike the OSU situation.

Cheating is cheating, but there is a big difference between immediately dealing with the cheating appropriately and simply covering it up and denying it happened. LSU has dealt with any cheating forthrightly and promptly. LSU fired the assistant coach responsible and never played the ineligible player. So there is a difference- one school deals with it appropriately, while another covers the cheating and compounds it.
There is also a difference between intentional cheating (knowing violation of the rules) and unintentional violation of a technical rule without any intent to gain an advantage no permitted by the rules (the telephone calls). That is why distinctions are made between major violations and minor ones.

An Oct. 27 letter from Martin to Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive also indicated that LSU determined additional phone calls by non-coaching football staffers to recruits that violated NCAA rules. The report states that such calls mostly involved “routine clerical tasks” and did not give LSU “any significant recruiting advantage.”
An audit of phone records dating back to August 2008 showed 389 phone calls were placed or received by non-coaching staffers and recruits or their families. Another 3,615 calls involved high school administrators or high school coaches, the report states.

But the LSU report also stated that thousands of improper phone calls between non-coaching football staffers and recruits, their families, high school coaches or administrators were discovered after the initial violations were reported in March.

Right. The NCAA should put UT on probation just for hiring the douchebag.
