I think the fact that the A&M pitcher thought that would be strike 3 tells you enough about this Ump’s zone

And again

4+ inches off and the pitcher assumes it’s strike 3

“I don’t know you take ‘em, but he did” -BM

I guess one of the “greatest baseball minds” isn’t so great anymore.

This is the guy that just realized catchers paint their fingernails sometimes to help the pitcher see the sign.

Straight men don't wear red nail polish. In the case you mentioned, black or green maybe, but red?

3 innings, 68 pitches, 4 walks, 6 Ks, no runs. Hell of a job by Moo. Didn’t see that coming at all.

I don’t think you actually understand anything about baseball

“I don’t know how you take it but he did” doesn’t mean “that was a strike”, it means “with 2 strikes you have to be careful to not let something even close to the plate get past, and that pitch was close enough that it takes some balls to let it go past”

It was still clearly a ball

It means they’re close. Close enough for the ump to call them strikes. Pretty simple.

Bullpen meltdown. Just a matter of time.

No, it means they are close enough for the batter, with a completely different perspective, to worry about it.

Also, “close enough for the ump to call them strikes” just proves my point that the ump is calling strikes that aren’t strikes

That’s some serious mental gymnastics there.

How? You think batter’s perspective on what a ump could call a strike as it’s flying at them isn’t different from the actual strike zone?

Frick man that’s such an unlucky foul tip. He actually changed the direction and it went into the very top of the catcher’s mitt

Sometimes the simplest answer is correct. Umpires aren’t perfect. The pitches are close. BM thinks they’re close enough for the ump to potentially call them strikes. You can only tell so much watching on TV. It’s not like we have stat cast like when watching MLB.
