Chambliss - ineligible. No punishment from the SEC

It's because it's still in court. I don't know the details, but it doesn't look like the case will finish before the season is over.

I don't think he should be playing. I think going to the courts and getting a TRO is bullshite.

But it has nothing to do with this case. It's completely different rules and shite. I think the judges should face penalties for these rulings.

DQ - eligible. LSU will get punished for playing him

Eligble according to the NCAA, not the SEC.

It is still irrelevant. The SEC is allowed to make its own eligibility rules. He doesn't need to know the rule, he only needs to know the SECs rule.

quote:

How can you effectively govern if you don't even know the rules?

Because the SEC has its own rules.

Apparently judges around the country disagree with you

It's been happening for a while and it's not a coincidence it's ruining the sport.

A bad decision doesn't change it. Otherwise, there are no rules at all.

I hope LSU is kicked out of the conference. An opinion I did not have until today.

Wrong. Chambliss is currently ineligible according to the NCAA. The SEC should apply their emergency death penalties they announced the other day

I think the judges should face penalties for these rulings
They're right.

Exactly. This is part of the problem. The other part is the nonsense penalties teams might face for playing a legally eligible player. Harris never suited up and got reimbursed $190 from the Saints for gas. Hutson actually saw action. But Hutson isn't a pro and Harris is. It's so stupid. Any reasonable person can see that.

Shocking. An Alabama fan wants LSU kicked out of the conference for threatening to do something that Alabama actually did do.

Different circumstances. Go play that game with someone else, it's not relevant. Besides, neither of them should have been allowed to start with, they were both bad decisions.

Wrong. Chambliss is currently ineligible according to the NCAA. The SEC should apply their emergency death penalties they announced the other day

No, he got a TRO.

They're right.

No, they aren't. They are taking away the rights of a voluntary organization and saying they don't have the right to make rules. All because of the general bullshite entitlement that is killing the country where anyone who can pretend to be a victim gets a ruling.

It doesn't matter what you think, what matters is what the NCAA is supposed to have the right to do, which is set its own standards for who is eligible to play in the SEC.

I can disagree with many rules, that doesn't mean I or anyone else has a right to get a judge to come in and tell private organizations what they can and can not do.

And as far as LSU goes, nobody forced them to take the players.

Alabama directly did things after the entire conference voted 15-0 to ban?

Good point. The conference took no action until LSU tried it.

The guy shouldn't have been allowed to play either. Tell me, how much did you defend the guy, and claim Alabama had a right to play him?

Correct. Do you know why? Incidental beneficiaries vs Intended beneficiaries. The SEC is going around all day acting like a pro organization with paid employees not taking classes, not living on campus but then they go whine to the courts because they can't treat the players like slaves anymore with $50 handshakes underneath the table. Well, the smart people in the room today didn't fall for it.

Now they're telling state courts "we're a voluntary membership organization" but in federal court they're arguing "oh we can punish you because we're a governing body." I have a feeling the federal courts aren't going to fall for that shtick either.

Yeah yeah antitrust. You may not be aware of this but it's not the 1970's anymore. The courts appear to recognize that the NCAA/SEC/B1G is actually semipro and they're treating those organizations like big boys - the NFL.

Antitrust laws started in the late 1800s in order to prevent monopolies on the railroads and oil companies that would use shady business practices to get those monopolies.

In no way were they ever meant to be applied to a voluntary and private organization that sets rules not for profits, but for competitive reasons and to create an overall product.

The NCAA has done nothing to gain a monopoly and doesn't even have one because there is the NFL and other leagues. What they provided was a good product and deal for athlete's that no other leagues could compete with. That was the crime of the NCAA.

LSU not only went against the rules of the conferences after a unanimous decision to not do these things, but they have also basically forced the rest of the conference to a standard they didn't want. A standard every other power conference doesn't want either.

All you so you can maybe gain just a tiny bit of depth.

frick your school, I hope you lose every game and get kicked out the conference.

The SEC is the org that keeps acting like they are a for profit semi pro league but in court cries like little babies that they are exempt from antitrust. I don't think judges are falling for that anymore

You are taking this really really hard. You are clearly emotionally injured about this and not rational at all. Get some sleep. It's going to be ok. College athletics aren't ruined. LSU isn't the devil.

No, they don't.

The SEC nor the NCAA makes a profit. They money they generate is revenue and it has always been put back into the system to pay for more scholarships, more sports that do not generate money and so on.

However, even if they were for profit, it doesn't even change the fact. Which is why the NFL, MLB etc. have all gotten exemptions. Because it was never meant for that.

And the NCAA will eventually get one as well which will fix this problem but doesn't address the larger problem that the laws are apparently poorly written in its focus to even require one to start with.

They are not.

LSU is the only one who is ignoring the rules set by the conference. These players are free to play on other teams in the NCAA, just not the SEC, Big10, Big12 or ACC (I think that's the list, might be off on one).

quote:

Judges have ruled these players eligible.

They never ruled LSU had to take them. You went against the conference and did so anyway using the courts to make it happen.

quote:

Oh yes, LSU. The ONLY SEC school that ever did anything wrong. Everyone else in the SEC are SAINTS!!! Pure as the wind driven snow I tell you

I'm unaware of any other time in the SEC where 1 school did this.

This entire thing is completely unprecedented. The closest thing I can think of is what lead to Tulane leaving the conference. Although they were just wanting higher economic standards and left because they couldn't talk the rest of the conference into it.
