No amount of delegated private authority or freedom of speech empowers you to make illegal rules, defy courts, defy the Sherman act, or provides immunity from selective enforcement.
Read the bylaws of the conference again.
Just like any private club or business, you can be thrown out as long as the rules are followed.
It doesnt have to be over the court case. There are no stipulations or thresholds. We dont want you here, majority vote, goodbye.
You are not obligated to follow rules you believe are illegal. Thats absolutely true. The conference isnt obligated to maintain you as a member either.

If the SEC was dumb enough to go to federal court without evidence it probably deserves to be thrown out.
It would be one of the dumbest moves Ive ever heard of from a business or legal perspective and anyone involved with that decision should be held accountable up to and including termination.
I take it you missed Sankey's performance last week?

I didnt. Hes been incompetent since day one.
I do believe the conference is entitled to uphold their rules.
He put his entire reputation on this lawsuit as far as im concerned. If it was a bluff he should be removed, the two sides should agree that no lawfare will be tolerated moving forward or draconian action will be taken and we should all move on.

The bylaws are irrelevant because I’m not questioning the conference’s authority to govern itself.
My point isn’t about their “authority to do the action”, it is about the “legality of the action in this context and timeline of legal proceedings”.

The local court probably rules for the local team, the SEC appeals and the verdict is eventually overturned based on the prior favorable ruling at the federal level.
I don't think you understand our Constitutional Republic. A federal court in Alabama cannot stop a Louisiana court from ruling in a separate lawsuit on Louisiana law.

You might be right, but the SEC and LSU have no control over what future legal action Smith and Harris take against the SEC.
MAYBE the silence from LSU and Kiffin indicates that a deal has privately reached to compensate Harris and Smith.

Unfortunately, the SEC is a business and will be liable for damages while being held in contempt in Louisiana.
lol

The bylaws are clear and if the vote meets that threshold with a federal ruling in their pocket the only question would be whether they want to pursue it, not can they.
Bylaws do not trump antitrust. If LSU's competitors colluded to stifle competition by expelling LSU, then the US Senate will step in. It just so happens that one of the senior members of that committee is John Kennedy.
