Saban's success is not related to X's & O's, Jamal's and Javaughantay's, or 5 star

studded rosters. His 7 NC's haven't been reliant on having the very best assistant's that can be had. The reason Saban's extreme level of achievement can't simply be replicated at will by other coaches is because it's fricking hard.
It's hard to have discipline and teach that to little baby children that play football. It's hard to teach players to sacrifice their own glory for the benefit of the team.
It's not easy to create personalities that, when facing failure, try harder and harder until they succeed instead of just opting out of their lives and opting out on the team.
And he has a short amount of time to do this in. Changing the whole modern mindset of me, me, me that most all teens have in modern times to a what can I do to help all my teammates attitude, in just a few short years, is almost miraculous.
He is not and never has been an extremely gifted X's and O's tactition. He has always been above average at defensive strategies but that alone does not equate to an overall brilliant coaching ability.
Many teams have great players and tons of them. Take the losers in Georgia, for example. Very talented players for decades and decades and decades but they all already have or get infected by that 'ole gangster attitude when they sign up to play for the Bulldogs.
Instead of football, things like dancing on the sidelines while singing about masturbating on women's backs is more important to them than winning games. The whole team rushing the field and trying to start fights are more important than winning games because they feel it makes them look like men.
To sum it up, there will never be another Saban because coaches just don't care enough. Saban is a relic from another era where being responsible and reliable and trustworthy and being intent on having things done right or else is very important to him. He has a unique ability to transfer that mindset to players and have them accept it.

Thanks, King Orange. People who think the next Saban is coming down the pike any day now are sorely mistaken. It takes a lot more than just having the #1 recruiting class year after year after year. That sounds contradictory, but it's not.
All those players would be no better than Georgia players if Saban wasn't programming them in all facets of their lives. It's not just athletic ability that spells success for Alabama; it's almost like a process.
That's a good name for it, the process. Saban is taking old time values and introducing them, for the first time, to modern teenagers.

Winning in football always has been and always will be mostly about the players. Saban with the Kansas roster gets his arse kicked no matter what the hell he preaches to the players. I do believe his ability to run a program gives him an edge over Smart, Swinney and maybe one or two others with comparable talent but it starts with the players.

No, the players are just pieces of the puzzle that are put together by the coach. Put a bunch of players on the field with a certified public accountant from Merrill Lynch as the coach, who just coaches football on the weekends, and you'll quickly find out it's about the coach mostly.

I don't see how this can be true in any way that can be imagined.

That's just like your opinion, man. Many coaches are able to get tremendous results with lesser players. This is one of the things Bryant was known for in his early years of coaching at Alabama. His players were quite visibly smaller than players on every team they faced but they never quit and never gave up and outlasted and out-"hearted" other players due to Bryant's influence.
Out of that determination came the Alabama ritual, which virtually every team has adapted, of holding up four fingers in the fourth quarter to notify everyone that would care to know that Alabama always owned the fourth quarter; it was who there were and what they did.
If forced to do so, which he never will be, there is really no doubt that Saban could take Kansas players and beat Alabama or take Alabama players and beat anyone.

Thanks, Peter, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Saban, unlike so many men today, is not a goofball. Like so many coaches today, Saban is not first and foremost the "friend" of the player.
He is the leader of the players; he isn't just like them or one of them. He has a powerful personality clearly based on alpha tendencies, even though he is only 4'9" inches tall. Players strive to make him happy because he is someone from which they enjoy having approval.
Saban's demeanor and the way he carries himself, with dignified class and powerful forthrightness, elicits respect from other adults and awe from teenagers who strive to have that type of personality.
Saban also has that elusive personality trait called charisma and it can't be bought or taught; you just have to have it. Basically, he is a real man that knows himself and has confidence in himself. These things, more than any others, are why he will be celebrating his 8th NC next season.

He’s better than most.
His onside kick against Clemson and the pass to up church versus Auburn are two specific calls I would say were key.
He also shifted offensive philosophy dramatically after 2013.
Saban had incredible Xs and Os versus Cam for a half.
I’d take him as a coach over Urban or any of the rest.
