Saban is the trouble-shooter, not the maintenance man; the start-up entrepreneur, not the sustaining businessman.

What about this line. How long will he be at Bama?

Once we get a couple of back to back NCs, he'll not even consider leaving.

Here's my thing. A coach can make a program, but he has to be in the right position. Saban did all he could at Michigan St., and saw the potential at LSU with recruiting in particular. Kudos to him for exploiting what previous coaches could not. Although DiNardo did give Saban talent to work with, contrary to popular belief. And he had talent to work with from Shula as well. In both cases he wasn't taking over total reclamation projects- he was just exploiting the potential others could not.

I would say he is in the same boat at Bama. He is put in the position to win because of the University. The same goes for Miles. He hit a ceiling at Ok St. and given the talent is proving he can lead more than most want to give him credit for in general. Most LSU and Bama fans would agree that no coach is bigger than the university.

LSU a national power? LOL, put the kool aid down, the past several years do not a national power make. You have to sustain, that has yet to be seen and will not be determined for several more years.

Since 2000, LSU is in the top 5 or 6 in wins and percentage. They have 2 NC's this decade. I'd say they are sustaining pretty well. But maybe you are right, LSU isn't a national power. Maybe Stanford is more of a national power.

Yes, LSU is a national power, but I think what geauxgeauxgirl was talking about is a historic power.

Seriously.....

The man is a good coach but I would put Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Mac Brown, Pete Carroll or even Steve Spurrier in front of him.

1- All have won a NC. Compare their records in college Football, all are comporable. Meyer my be higher.

2- Spurrier had a better pro record.

3- All have a AP NC trophy except Saban.

Deep down... LSU brought Saban his greatest success. He still was 3-2 in bowl games at LSU with a BCS NC. Les is 3-0. Saban vs LSU = 0-2.
Just saying.

I would take Meyer, Mac Brown, Pete carroll, Les Miles and Spurrier over Saban. More skins and better bowl records, al have AP NC trophy and none hav lied to both an College AD and NFL owner. LOL

Well why the hell do we denigrate it when we talk about LSU's 2003 title? I guess we only refer to the AP championship when it benefits the argument rantards want to make.

LSU Fans are now force to discredit their own school in attempt to take shots at Saban.

Not all fans, but some. I think Saban is a great recruiter and coach. However, being a great person with integrity is another. But if all you care about is winning, the other part doesn't really matter, does it?
