Saban picked that one game to play the other QB’s to get the “Play the backup”

Out of the way.
To show Milroe is the only one available to lead the team. He may turn out ok.
Not a big pass production guy right now, but very efficient. 10/12 with a 16 yard per pass clip yesterday.

Milroe doesn’t read the defense, but he makes up for it with sheer talent. He can throw people open with the best of them.

He is getting better every week. Not elite by any means but he is at least serviceable now…whereas he was unplayable vs Texas

It’s more complicated than that.
He is actually making check downs at times. I’m of the mindset that he needed more time and cerebral development like Hurts did before he was actually ready to be the guy, but he does find secondary targets the last two or so games.
I believe the real issue is he doesn’t have a sophisticated understanding of what the defenses are doing, especially when they roll coverages or go exotic, which of course is close to what you were saying.
He 100% threw into coverages against Texas without even looking which is simply unacceptable, but the upside and growth week to week appears to be enough for Saban to continue rolling the dice with him.
Another factor is that he has lazy mechanics and relies on raw arm talent to get the ball downfield which I believe greatly hinders his short and intermediate accuracy.
The last two weeks his big improvement has been in decisively tucking the ball and taking easy yards rather than over thinking a read and eating sacks. Part of that is him and part of it is Rees is simplifying the offense and highlighting the throws he’s confident in IMO.
He’s possibly the most explosive player in the SEC athletically, he just needs to lean on that until the reads slow down for him and he can be the passer he wants to be.

Milroe is reaping the benefits of playing MSU and OM the last two games neither team has a defense worth a damn.

I like where Bama is going tho. Joyless murder ball was gonna take a minute to get used to again but it so much more efficient. Especially defensively when you don’t have to play 90 plays. Holding ole miss to 10 points is no small feat and you don’t do that with a spent defense. I want Bama to run the ball, be efficient with the pass game, have about 20-25 attempts, hit 17 of them, play to your defense and have great special teams. We had the “elite” quarterbacks system. Frick that. This is Bama football.

Actually not a bad idea in a game you should win.

I see a LOT of similarities with Vince Young. Given the proper OC to maximize his ability, I think the kid could be an absolute beast.

I think Saban did it to figure out who the backup should be. Milroe was always the starter. Now its obvious that Buchner is garbage & should have transferred to a Sun Belt school.
