Because it’s constantly brought up by Bama fans.

Except it’s not. It’s one guy. The one I’m arguing with. Maybe there have been a few others but the vast majority don’t believe it.

Did you argue with Coach Saban or Dylan Moses when they brought it up after the game?

Saban didn’t say it with any amount of certainty. It’s more “I don’t know what happened”. Unlike you who is acting like you know for a fact.

And Moses
Maybe that guy should’ve played better. Stealing signals doesn’t explain him jogging over casually to the ball carrier or whiffing on tackles numerous times.

No, you’re putting words into my mouth that I’ve never spoken. I simply said it’s easier to believe they had our calls.

quote:

I literally said 2014. They put up over 600 yards and 42 points.

They were beaten 59-0 in 2014. If you’re referring to 2013, they had a guy named Johnny Manziel playing QB.

quote:

They put up 17 fewer yards and 4 fewer points. Nick Marshall, the running QB, put up over 400 passing yards. An outlier for his career.

Nick Marshall is the best QB Auburn has had not named Cam Newton since Jason Campbell. That Auburn team was much better than 2020 Ole Miss, IMO.

quote:

Again that’s why I brought up the missed tackles. You recognize the missed tackles were frequently an issue in that 2020 game

Those things are not mutually exclusive. I’m not sure why you insist they are.

quote:

You’re pointing to the yardage

I’m pointing to a record setting number of yards, yards per play & points that were put up by a far inferior offense and wasn’t duplicated the rest of the year.

quote:

Do I know with a 100% certainty Ole Miss didn’t steal signs?

Okay, then stop pretending you do and talking to me like I’m an idiot for suggesting it as a possibility.

He said it with the same amount of certainty that you have berated me for in this thread.

"It seemed like everything we did though they had an answer for," Saban said. "I don't know if they had our signals or what. That's not anything unusual.

I don't think it was specifically stealing signals, I do think it was exactly what was discussed by OP in terms of what Lane knew about us and our system and how we call it. Lane knew all of our tendencies, how we'd react to certain things working/not working, how we'd audible/adjust, etc. And he's the best there is at exploiting stuff like that. And he did, for 4 quarters.

So I don't think he was literally stealing signs during the game, but I think he was basically doing that via knowing exactly what a look we gave meant we would do and knowing what checks we would go to once they gave a look. As we all know, Lane is better than anybody at seeing an alignment and calling a counter to it - even more so when he knows exactly what stuff a team does out of that alignment in that situation like he does with us.

I'd imagine we've worked pretty hard at changing some of that up, but a lot of it kind of is who we are, so we just gotta be better. I will be curious to see if we just play a lot more base stuff and say "beat us" instead of trying to do things that, if known or read, can be exploited.

Let’s see what you’ve said
quote:

I also think Lane had our calls.

Let’s see what Saban said
quote:

I don't know if they had our signals or what.

So Saban didn’t really know. You think it definitely happened. Big difference between “I think it happened” and “it was so bad maybe they did but I don’t know”.

Okay, so we’ll agree to disagree.

I think Lane had our calls in some fashion, compounded with missed tackles. You think it was just a perfectly called offensive game compounded with missed tackles.

Seems easy enough. I’m betting those perfect calls and missed tackles are glaringly absent this year.

Part A I agree

Part B.........Hellams is still playing safety, right?

Yes that’s what I meant. Was A&M stealing play calls?
quote:

Nick Marshall is the best QB Auburn has had not named Cam Newton since Jason Campbell.

Marshall wasn’t a great passer. Strong arm sure, but not very accurate. It’s a fact that that game was a huge outlier for him as a passer. I guess they were stealing signs too?
quote:

Those things are not mutually exclusive. I’m not sure why you insist they are.

Because it could make the difference between Ole Miss putting up 500 yards and 35 points and doing what they did. Putting up around 500 yards and 35 points has been done by quite a few other teams to Bama. The outlier was the missed tackles.
quote:

Okay, then stop pretending you do and talking to me like I’m an idiot for suggesting it as a possibility.

You’re acting like it certainly happened. You keep saying it in multiple threads. Kiffin understanding Bama’s weaknesses because of his time here is far more logical. Yet you keep insisting they stole Bama’s signs.

I do want to point out that this was the first time in Saban’s 14 season career with us that he’s ever even alluded to that, which gives me more than enough comfort to stand firm in my own opinion.

I feel like we haven't gotten a diamond platinum rustle up the masses thread from Tuscaloosa in a while.

My question is, when will you be dropping the next album?

Maybe not duplicated by anyone against us, but it wasn't even Ole Miss's biggest output of the year.

Interestingly enough, their other top performance in terms of yards, pts and ypp (outside of Vandy which doesn't count) were Florida and South Carolina........who weren't great on defense but also ran a similar defensive scheme (though not exactly the same, but from the Saban family tree) of matching things, making perfect calls, etc.

vs Alabama - 48 pts, 647 yds, 7.52 YPP

vs Florida - 35 pts, 613 yds, 7.86 YPP

vs South Carolina - 59 pts, 708 yds, 8.85 YPP

Running the same sort of stuff against them again this year feels kind of like LSU stubbornly running man to man against State last year. There is pretty clear evidence that one style works better than the other (dome it off, make them work down the field on long drives ie Arkansas, Auburn, Indiana) vs trying to perfectly match everything and leave yourself open (Alabama, Florida, SC).
