So what he is saying is that if he couldn't score and lost 12 yards in 3 plays after starting at the 25 then he would have a better chance having to go the distance of the field. Time to change the medication coach cause it ain't working.

FWIW i agree that NFL overtime is better than CFB.

the playoff NFL overtime is even better.

CFB OT is horrible. Starting teams 25 yards from the endzone! They're already in field goal range and that is a joke.

Let me pose this question:

If there was NFL (regular season) style OT in CFB and if you were Les Miles do you kick or receive to start OT against bama last week?

I think i kick.

I think Saban just says crazy shite sometimes to test how far he can go and still have Bama fans defend him

Reasonable position.

However, if you are the coach of the "best team ever" that just lost AT HOME in OT.....you look a little "small" in voicing that position NOW.

So you like sudden death? I'm sorry but I think very few people agree with that.

As someone said...move cfb back to the 40 or something. But for god's sake don't go to a sudden death format because that basically let's the coin toss decide.

I would be willing to bet there is like a .70 correlation between teams who win the toss and teams who win NFL OT.

Bottom line is NFL overtime gives a BLATANT advantage to the winner of the coin toss and it absolutely boggles my mind that anyone who is a fan of sport at any level can "prefer" that.

case closed.

They should also disallow kicking and punting in the game of football.

Unfortunately for Saban, his team had substantial trouble getting within field goal range regardless of where they started. Bama's offense was smothered in the second half.

This is typical nick. he bitched about open dates now he's bitching about o.t.. every year it's something new that he feels can benefity him.

It is really about him selling publicly that he's a n.f.l. guy, come play for me because i know and prepare players for the n.f.l., i used to coach with bill b. maybe you know him? like no other coach has coached, developed players for the n.f.l. , or have contacts in the n.f.l.

seems a little desperate of ole nick. seems like he feels he's losing some of his favor.

maybe people are figuring out he doesn't have a monoply on getting players to the n.f.l.

not sure how o.t. can be any more fair. both parties get the ball at the same yard line. both parties get a shot to do something with it. Hey nick, recruit a kicker instead of having walk on try outs. maybe it's not the rules, maybe you screwed up by not believing kicking is a important phase of the game.

I've never understood all the bitching about overtime rules, whether in the NFL or college. If you don't want to be subject to the rules in overtime, win in regulation.

If you don't, you know how overtime works before the game started, so deal with the shite. There is nothing fair or unfair about it.

I never understood why people had a problem with the NFL rule. If you lose the toss, make a good kick, have good kick coverage and make a defensive stop.

If it's in college, get some yards and kick a FG or score a TD. Stop the frickin' whining.

I just want to hear from some of these people that are saying NFL overtime is better how they can back up a system that gives a proven statistical advantage to the winner of the coin toss what a fricking joke

I think you receive, unless you have a very high degree of confidence the kickoff will be a touchback (and probably even if that's the case). The team on offense first has the opportunity to score and end the game, or to give the other team a long field against a good defense if they can get close to midfield on the first possession.

Am I the only one who really likes the college system but thinks they should start at about the 40 instead of the 25?

Maybe start on the 35 for college and 45 for the NFL to make it less of a gimme for field goals.

Unless you get your shite pushed in backwards for 10 yards and miss that is..

I think college has a better OT than sudden death.

Depending on the strength of your team, Sudden Death sometimes means that the game is decided on a coin flip.

in the NFL the winner of the flip wins about 57% of the time in CFB the winner of flip wins about 52% of the time.

I just think starting teams on the 25 is a ridiculous notion.
