fact: The team that wins the coin toss at the beginning of the game wins 51% of the time.

Better fact. The team that wins the Overtime wins the Game 100% of the time.

Saban is being a little fricking bitch; however if they asked me to design overtime I would have them start at the 25 and back it up 5 yards for each subsequent OT until you get to the 40. Must go for two after the first OT.

Interesting. Consider whether it might be better to start at the 40 and move it up 5 yards each consecutive overtime, stopping at the 25 for the 4th and each subsequent overtime.

That's a stupid fricking idea.

I hate NFL over time, College OT is fair and exciting.

naw starting at the 25 is a quick way to end an overtime for teams that don't want to play anymore (see Bama 11/5). Backing it up and forcing the 2 point conversion makes it harder to score each OT and prevents these ridiculous 6 overtime games.

I'm cool with just starting it at the 40 but that might keep any team from scoring at all. 25 is too close IMO.

I agree but it's not really broke so why fix it.

Saban needs to get over it.

on the whole I agree; the only thing i would like to prevent are the 5 and 6 overtime games. It should never go longer than three IMO and even then three overtime games should be pretty rare.

Combine NFL and NCAA overtime, and i'd be pretty perfect.

Kickoffs instead of starting at the 25 would make NCAA much better IMO.

So he said if you kick off and the team cant go down the field and score they don't deserve to win. I guess you could also say if you are given the ball 25 yards from the goal line and you can't score you don't deserve to win either.

yeah, but Bama would just go backwards 10 yards from there.

I am not sure that your system is fair to those getting the hell kicked out of them.

You could, unless you lose. Then you must whine.

Still the wrong answer. CFB is the only major sport where the nature of the game changes in OT.

The only real answer is to play an overtime of a defined length just like other real sports. The NFL almost has it right, except that they end it prematurely with the first score.

What changes regarding the nature of the game. Offense, defense, ST?

You have to dribble the ball. And after scoring you can go for 3. Oh, wait...

Teams that cant score at least 3 pts in OT NEVER deserve to win.

An interception returned to the 2 yard line is brought back to the 25.

You don't know the rules of CFB overtime? Seriously? You must be one of those idiots from the rant.

What CFB does with overtime by removing 75% of the field, 2/3 of the kicking game, and the game clock is the equivalent of a shootout in a wuss sport like soccer.

Real men play the real game, like they do in basketball, baseball, and (almost) in the NFL.

CFB overtime is the most poorly conceived addition to the game. Ever.

Actually says that NFL type overtime would make the coin toss less important haha

Saban needs to ask Drew Brees about this. After the NFC Championship game when the Saints beat the Vikings, Brees said that once they won the coin toss in OT he knew they would drive the ball down close enough to kick a winning field goal...just saying.

And this. CFB overtime is bastardization of the real game of football.
