As long as Smith is allowed free transfer anywhere outside the SEC, I'm fine with a restriction on inside the conference (with the option to still do it and sit a year).
Seems pretty reasonable to me.
Saban is the best coach of all time
However, he is being a huge pussy. Miles has let players transfer to SEC schools. He actually let 4* recruit Phelon Jones go to Alabama. Bottom line, Saban is a baby back bitch pussy compared to iron balls Miles. It just sucks Saban is a better coach
ETA: Please dont let anyone take this post seriously

You don't think he's ever had to sell out? How would you describe the Elliot Porter snafu?

why did Saban break the rule then by allowing Black to transfer to MZ?
(a) he didn't "break" the rule, the rule gives him the option
(b) Chris Black was never going to play at Alabama. He has an opportunity to play at Missouri. Pretty easy
(C) Mo Smith will play the same role at Georgia he plays at Alabama, which is a nickel/dime pass defense package player.
Pretty easy to see the difference.
Actually Saban wouldn't have allowed Black to transfer to an SEC school either. However, there's an NCAA by-law that says a school has to respond to a transfer request in 7 days or the athlete gets a full release. Black put his request in the week before the LSU game...I guess everyone was busy and focused on it and the school didn't respond in time so Black got a full release and could've went anywhere:

I've posted that multiple times, yet many still can't grasp it. It's odd.

I couldn't help but notice that your "dissertation" didn't really get into the precedence that Saban would be setting by allowing a player to follow his coach (in this case 2 coaches) to another school when that coach left. Do you not see that doing so could be problematic for college football in general? Opening the door to exceptions would only muddy the water even more.

I'm not sure if that's directed at me, but I'm just having fun with this. All upside for UGA.
To be clear, I understand where Saban is coming from, especially if he suspects UGA tampered. I just also want Maurice Smith to play for UGA this season, because that's the team I cheer for.
That LSU game excuse, however, is high quality bullshite.

If accurate, that's amazing. But I thought Saban was so successful because he's a details guy?

If it was a graduate, he wouldn't be able to block it.
Just because they don't have to sit out a year does not mean they can come and go as they wish.
Graduate Transfer Are Not Free Agency
"Like all other transfers, graduate transfers need permission to contact another institution. If a coach denies permission to contact and it is upheld on appeal, the athlete cannot accept an athletic scholarship at a potential transfer destination."

I don't see how that's an excuse and I don't see why that would be BS...Bama didn't respond to Chris Black's transfer request so that allowed him to transfer anywhere. The article just implied that maybe folks were so concerned 'bout the LSU preparation that they either forgot to respond or waited till it was too late...that's always a big game, so plausibly I could see that happening...but even if the LSU prep didn't have anything to do with it, someone at Bama dropped the ball by not responding, which was good for Chris Black...
In Maurice Smith's case, they didn't fail to respond...

It wasn't because they were busy, at least directly. Chris Black isn't good, so it was pretty low on the totem pole. If Maurice Smith had requested his then, they would have responded.
It has everything to do with Maurice Smith being a bigger contributor than Chris Black. That's fine, but it's OK to call it what it is.

Yeah, I'm surprised that slipped by...I'm not sure through what channels the transfer requests go but I have to think it has to eventually go thru Saban...maybe it got stuck somewhere in between...and since Saban is such a details guy, maybe that's why the article implies that he (and the staff) was too busy "detailing" LSU to notice...
