Saban made rational, calculated comments like an adult.

IMHO, most everyone is missing the bigger picture. Saban was speaking in front of a bunch of Alabama businessmen. He said a couple of things that he should not have. In a nutshell, he claimed that A&M had the #1 recruiting class and 'bama had the #2. His assertion is that the only way that A&M could beat 'bama in recruiting is that they had to have bought those players through NIL deals. Forget the fact that Jimbo beat him this past season on the field and that 'bama did not win a natty, but he still thinks he should have had the #1 class. In their loss to A&M, it was clear that Jimbo out-coached him. 'bama had the superior team, more talent, healthy and more experienced. Their team was lead by the Heisman winner. A&M was beat-up, second string QB, inexperienced OL and only half their receivers able to play. This was apparent to any player that has ever played the game, Jimbo out-smarted Saban on the field.
The second thing was that he was also asking them for more money for their collective and was laying out a case to get more money.
He could have made his point without naming names but he could not help himself. He is scared. Not just of A&M but of CFB as a whole. He sees his advantage in recruiting slipping away due to NIL by those schools who have the resources to fund big collectives.

He isn't scared, Alabama will find a way to fund their team. He was merely trying to whip up some support.
Alabama had a damn good class in 2022, A&M only finished #1 because they had 30 players and Alabama only took 26.
In my opinion, Saban wasn't really attempting to take a shot at A&M, he was just trying to fire up his support base. Jimbo should've realized that and been a little more calculated with his reply.

Saban apologized for one reason. He screwed up when he said A&M paid for all their players, as there are surely some players that haven't received pay. He could be sued for that.
