Um.. No. We were actually refering to coaches having integrity. And since he was saying all signs talk about how Miles is chock full of integrity so far I thought i'd bring up the, 'But we have a new rival in f'king Alabama," quote that Miles said in front of 5,000 people...
Wasn't talking about LSU... just a guy. And my POINT is that PEOPLE are flawed. And if someone is obsessed enough with finding enough dirt on someone to say they don't have integrity, then they can. it's just a matter of obsession.... HOW obsessed are we?
I wouldn't want a coach that didn't cuss or piss people off. No sissies allowed.

Except for this, m2pro, Saban signs kids at a clip of 27-32 a year at Alabama now. Even when he is only supposed to take like 13, he still signs 27. So, all of those guys who are oversigned and get booted 2 years later either have to sit out a year to transfer or never play D-I ball again. Their future is ruined. All so that Saban could hold try-outs every year.
Why do you think that SEC passed their rule of no more than 28 per year? Houston Nutt abused this too by signing all he did last year. Doing it one year when you are taking a chance on a bunch of non-qualifiers is one thing, but doing it year after year when you know that you are going to have to run off 12-15 players who are currently on your team is quite another.
College football rakes in millions of dollars. Saban and top coaches make millions. The only thing that these guys get out of it is a college education. When their schollie gets pulled for another guy who has never set foot on campus, yeah, it rubs me the wrong way.
It should you too.
But, Bama fans love it and are cheering him on. So, you deserve each other. If Miles were doing it, I'd think he was a liar and a jerk and wouldn't mind saying so. LSU is not the paragon of virtue and I don't pretend that it is. It is just like other big time schools. But, LSU fans criticize their coaches. Bama fans have bought into the "Saban as God" myth because you have been looking for a replacement for the Bear for 25 years and can't see the truth about what the guy is doing.
Everything that I've said is true and the rest of the college football landscape knows it. It is only Bama fans that can't see it. You can't say that on a Bama board because they would ban you, but this is Tigerdroppings so deal with it.

i don't care about the bama boards first of all. i've tried them... you have to wait half an hour or a day or more for responses... other ones you have to pay to be a part of like rivals or whatever. i love TD.com
however, to address this part of your statement.. see, i'm not stupid. i know WHY you feel this way. but the fact of the matter is, nothing he's doing is wrong, illegal, or immoral. he oversigns because we need depth. we need guys here to be competitive. if you don't get to play at Alabama, go somewhere else. he hasn't RUINED these guys' careers or potential. they can TRANSFER. they can GO somewhere else if they aren't good enough. it's real life.
YEAH we're cheering him on. He's the best damn coach we've had since the Bear, save MAYBE Gene Stallings and even still I'd probably take Saban's abilities over Stallings'. you say LSU fans criticize their coaches? you THINK Bama fans don't?! we just know the goods when we have them. and we got them. i have friends that refuse to be impressed with him until he's won a championship.
stop generalizing fan bases. stop trying to make it simple and bottle it up so you can call it a particular name and put it on a shelf. there's more to it than that. we DEFINITELY see the truth about what the guy is doing. and we DEFINITELY see the truth about what all the other coaches we've had USED to do.
you say all of college football landscape can see it but Bama fans can't? wake up. join the real world. we're not stupid. we WERE desperate to get a good coach though, i'll give you that. we've BEEN desperate for a real ball club for a while now. we finally have one. and if ONE of the knocks we have to hear about is having a coach over-sign a few kids, then so be it. their lives aren't ruined. their football chances aren't altered. the most they'll have to worry with is a little time wasted and the hassle of finding a new place.

you actually do bring one thing to this board... a lot of frustration from people that wish they could shake you and wake you up. you need to get a life man. one guy says something intelligently worded enough to make an impactual statement (even though i have blown a few holes in his arguments) and you wig out and think the world of him because you lack the mental aptitude to do what he did.

At SEC Media Days a reporter questioned CNS about attrition:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. Would you classify such attrition as normal year to year operations?
COACH SABAN: We have a demanding program. I mean, when I say ‘demanding program,’ I’m not talking about football. We have a personal development aspect to our program that there’s principles and values in the organization relative to developing a successful philosophy, creating the right kind of habits, thoughts, habits and priorities that are going to help you make good decisions, whether it’s the Pacific Institute coming in, whether it’s a peer intervention program that address behavioral issues, drugs, alcohol, gambling, spiritual development, how to treat the opposite sex, macho man stuff, running your mouth, getting in fights.
Most of the stuff you read about players having issues with come in some of those categories from that personal standpoint. We spend a lot of time trying to develop personalities on our team, characteristics that will help them be more successful, and they’ll be more successful in life for having been involved in the program.
It is demanding. We have some players in our program who have not met those demands. We have the same kind of demands academically. We have one of the highest graduation rates in the SEC and in the country, and that’s going north for next year because we’ll have even more players graduate next year in our program.
But we have a demanding academic system in terms of player requirements, in terms of what they need to do. There are players that don’t meet that. And we have the same thing in football. But none of these players are leaving because of the kind of football players they are from our standpoint. There may be some player who leaves because they’re disappointed and don’t think or don’t have the confidence that they can play.
So if we have attrition for any of those areas, and I tell the player, I don’t want you to leave, you’re a good person in the program, you’re a good student. You may be a backup player, but you have to be satisfied with your role on the team ’cause we don’t want a player that’s disgruntled or negative in terms of our team chemistry for selfish reasons because you’re unsatisfied with your role. If you don’t think you can achieve that here, I’m supportive in helping you go someplace else.
I don’t know how these things get out. But I only address these things when we start fall camp. We still have a couple players who could or couldn’t qualify. We have quite a few players who have already enrolled in school. This is from a young player’s standpoint. We have some players who will be grayshirted and know they will be grayshirted. And we have some players who are contemplating what their future’s gonna be relative to the University of Alabama.
And we have some players who are being suspended, whether it’s for behavior or academic reasons, and they won’t continue at our school.

That's sounds good........ unless you have a brain. How are these kids' futures ruined? If they can't play, they can't play. They're all good enough to go to a lower division and get a scholarship and play from day 1. They can still get an education there, right? That's still a free ride that most of us never get. If they think they're too good for Division 1AA then they're welcome to sit out a year and go to another school. They can pay for a year of schooling with a student loan like the rest of us, if they don't want to step down to 1AA.

Okay. So, you are half way through your college career and you have decided on a major. You couldn't go to college unless you had a full ride. You're doing reasonably well in school and are on track to graduate, but you're not a future pro football player (although you were a 4 star in high school) so you're down the depth chart a ways. You worked hard in Spring practice, went through summer conditioning and drills, and are ready to start your junior or senior year and fall camp and Coach Saban calls you into his office and tells you that you aren't cutting it and they are going a different direction because their's this 18 year-old, aight, who hasn't suited up yet that he thinks will be better than you.
So, you're sent scrambling. Where do you finish school? Will anyone pick you up? What about your major? Will classes transfer? You end up going to Jacksonville St. (maybe) and getting a degree from there - IF you are able to land on your feet after receiving a blow like that as a 20 year old kid.
How many transfer?
How many don't play football again?
How many end up with college degrees?
How many can pay for tuition on their own?

Nice interview with Saban.
So, the Bama Nation, er, Saban Nation believes that Saban is just keeping the highest character and most intelligent kids.
This is Saban's plan? So, he recruits Alonzo Lawrence (wasn't supposed to qualify), Eddie Lacy (grade and character issues), Darrington Sentimore (grade issues), and Dre Kirkpatrick (nothing needs to be said about this guy).
If this were true then wouldn't he be recruiting high quality guys to begin with instead of a bunch of guys who might not make the grades or keep up with his "demanding" program?
Whatever.
The guy is holding tryouts every year and letting players know at the end of July or early August that their schollie has been pulled. All of a sudden, they have "character" issues. Yet another example of Saban throwing 19 year old kids under the bus. If they have "character" issues, kick them off the team earlier. But, you can't do that while you're still waiting to see who will qualify from your oversigned class.
You know, I was wrong about something. Alabama fans are not hypocrites. You guys are very consistent. You love this stuff and cheer whatever your coach does to win. To be a hypocrite would mean that you would hold up integrity and high morals on the one hand and then approve of this garbage on the other. But, you don't even do that anymore. You know what is going on and you like it because you haven't had a winning program in so long and you'll do whatever it takes to win.
Like I said earlier, way to go! You guys are a great fit!

So. If they can't earn the reason they have the scholarship, they should remain? What about the next guy that can earn his way and actually play and bring in revenue and earn the scholarship? That's quite a utopian attitude you have. Perhaps you could lobby the NCAA to allow schools to place players on academic scholarship and take them off athletic if they can't make the team. Until then, the only other option is to help them plot their course and perhaps they should be grateful for the 2 yrs education that they got that perhaps someone more academically deserving didn't get because they didn't meet financial considerations and are in the workforce instead.

Riiight. So, everyone is doing this?
You cut a guy who has been in your system for 3 years for a guy who has never put on a uniform for you and you are defending it?
I thought that Saban was a master at developing talent? I thought that he could take players and mold them into "fine young men." Why does he keep having to go through guys already on the team to make way for raw talent that is fresh out of high school if he is such a great coach?
I'll tell you why: Because Saban's approach is that if a guy isn't starting by his junior year, he needs to be moved out of the way for a guy who could potentially start his junior year. Again, the fans love it because they think it gives them a better chance to win. But, this same player (who was oversigned) could have gone to another school on his list and made it all the way through.
I'm not against Saban recruiting hard. I'm not against him fielding his best team. My point is simply that when he signs 27 or 28 in a year that he was supposed to sign 13 because you can only have 85, it is not good for the players who could have signed somewhere else if they had known this was going to happen, and it ultimately will not be good for Alabama. Eventually, you are going to have 3 and 4 star guys that make up the bulk of your roster catch on to this and go elsewhere.
But, you are enjoying it right now, so best of luck to you!

Earn your scholarship or move on. Some maybe want playing time and will move. A myriad of reasons.

Yeah, he sux.. You're right. What were we thinking hiring him.

It's been harped on every message board possible. I don't think h.s. players are so sheltered they don't read message boards and can see what's up.

We've had that for the most part the last several years. I think we'll be just fine from here on out, but thanks for such honest, heartfelt concern.
