I'm calling B.S. on all of this. If the NCAA had a clear video of the coach giving out money to the recruit, it would be all over the place right now and McElwain would be toast and on the unemployment line as we speak.
Let's stipulate for the record.... ALL the big time programs dance over the lines when it comes to recruiting....ALL. I know things that LSU would do to entice recruits....Harvey Williams did not come free. Stanley Roberts had a sugardaddy. I suspect the same goes for Alabama (Gene Jelks comes to mind...as does rumors of Reuben Foster)...Hell, we KNOW it happened at Auburn with Cam and Cecil. No one would be that stupid to have a coach involved directly. Pete Carroll used to use Hollywood celebrities.
This is the end of this. Until I see proof.

Because Spurrier and Meyer are long gone and most 4 and 5 star recruits only want to play for teams currently in the top 10.

Not sure about the exact circumstances back then BUT its not like these players don't have cash on hand even back then.If he was living off campus at the time he was probably getting a $900 to $1,200 per month room and board stipend plus a 4 to 5k a year Pell Grant and since he had a dependent he probably recieved WIC and possibly EIC.You're probably looking at anywhere from 18k to 25k tax free cash and benefits (mostly cash)You should be able to make that money go a long way in a college town.Hell,these days you get COA stipends thrown in on top of the rest of these benefits.If these guys are halfway smart with their living situation you should be able to afford a $400 to $500 per month car payment.Believe me,ALL athletic depts have people specifically employed to get these kids every single benfit they're entitled to.
Now,I have no idea exactly how he qualified for a car loan or who exactly signed the papers.Different story all together.

Ha. Too funny. If we were cheating we'd be in much better shape recruiting wise.
