I've seen it posted elsewhere that he was having family problems, but I have no idea if that's true or not.

Suicide is stupid, so selfish. Gotta feel bad for the guy, I can't imagine what was going through his head in order to make him do that.

I really can't think of anything that would make me do that,maybe if I was terminally ill and was in pain 24/7 but that's it...

All of what you say is very true.
But if a person is clinically depressed (and family problems can often make a person that way), then the normal alarm bells in your brain don't ring as needed.
