I wish UF would move the rowing teams to the varsity level.
The Sarasota area has really taken off and has one of the top clubs in the country.
Sarasota is building a rowing facility that will host the 2017 World Championships and future NCAA Championships. Highest graded facility in the country. Harvard, Georgetown, Michigan, Northeastern, and teams from all over the north have been here training on what is already built. Now other area schools are starting up programs, I feel like UF is missing a big opportunity.
FWIW, here is facility. It is pretty cool.

Yeah, and lots of closer teams and most of the West schools were in TX.
Rowing though is a bit odd. The geography of rivers dictates meets taking place away from most schools and we have a premier course so we'll be hosting a lot of the meets. We were already competing with West schools. This move is really a move by SEC and B12 rowing teams from C-USA to the B12 for rowing. Also the Championship in 2015 is in Oak Ridge.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee rowing is one of the three new affiliates that will compete in the Big 12 Conference starting in 2015.
Kansas, K-State, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia will be joined by Alabama, Old Dominion and Tennessee beginning in 2015 with that season's Championship conducted Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Previously, all eight teams have competed in the Conference USA Championships for an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia would compete in a separate five-team Big 12 Championship the week prior, though an automatic NCAA bid to the winner was not granted since it did not meet the six-team minimum.
These teams will still compete under the Conference USA banner in 2014 for an NCAA automatic qualifying spot on Saturday, May 17 on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge.
It may be under the B12 banner but it sounds an awful lot like the B12 is competing here rather than the other way around.

crew is not an inexpensive sport for one that is not revenue at all, especially with the 8 man crews. Those boats are a bit pricey. A lot of the New England crew teams came down to Augusta for Spring Break because the rivers were still ice floes at the time. I think UGA may have a club team. I seem to recall the insignia, but I don't know where they train/race.

I don't know what, but it is something.
I guess you can compete with harvard? rowings still a big thing there right?
And yeah they definitely missed Row Tide as their slogan.

I almost jokingly started a "breaking news" thread stating that Bama was joining the Big 12 concerning this.
