Rip the bandaid off — Go to a 24 or 32 team playoff and also have a secondary playoff

No need to host games on campus sites (although it could lead to more interesting matchups on campus that wouldn’t otherwise happen).
There are enough bowl games to support this kind of playoff with a secondary NIT style playoff for those that miss it. The smaller bowl games would have more relevance.
Get rid of conference championship games while we’re at it too. Their sponsors can move to bowl games.
Think about it. Hot teams like Florida and South Carolina make it in and have a shot, and sissy pants like Kiffin can STFU.
Prove it on the field and don’t hold it so some subjective level by a biased committee.

Then why have a regular season because it doesn't mean shite

Why have a regular season for basketball?
It’s enough to prove the top 24-32 teams. About all it'll be needed for.

You have to start worrying about health too right?
this isn't basketball or baseball.

Keep the conference championship.
Go back to divisions.
Go back to bowl games and last one is January 1.

They don’t care about that. A team can currently play up to 17-18 games right now.
If someone plays at Hawaii they can have 13 games regular games.
Add a conference championship game and 4 more potential playoff games and that team is already at 18 games.
That’s why we just need to get rid of the conference championship games.

The non-conference portion of a basketball schedule is longer than the entire regular football season. And during it there's many opportunities for teams of different conferences to play each other and build a large enough sample size to compare conferences.
Not an apples to apples comparison with the two sports.

Why don’t we just invite everybody to the playoffs.

I am for a 24 team playoff, just like FCS. It makes sense, but you are dealing with fans of a sport that used to crown a national champion with no post season at all. The bowls were just for fun. So change is hard for many of them.
Texas high school state champs play 16 games. College FCS champs play 16 or 17 games. The number of games is not the issue, it's the conference championship games. They need to go. They have only been around since the 90's so not really a tradition.
The bowls can host all the playoff games. For the teams that miss out, their seniors can play in the all star games if they are good enough. Everyone else needs to study and get their degrees since they won't be going pro.

Or we could crown a national champion after the regular season like they used to do.
