It takes a real a-hole to troll a thread like this.
Whoever you are, get some fricking help or maybe grow the frick up.

Borrowed from Twitter...

"If Eli Gold was the voice of the Crimson Tide then Cecil was the pen. He’s “writ HIS name in Crimson flame”.

This is PERFECT.

This is a massive loss for Bama Nation. But what a joy it was to have had Cecil cover our Crimson Tide to almost perfection coverage for many years.

That's a real shame. Great loss for the sportswriting community. He was magnificent. He was the rare "hometown writer" who while certainly supported Alabama, he wasn't a sycophantic cheerleader. When they stepped in it,he addressed it.And he didn't take cheap shots at Alabama's rivals.

Bless you, Cecil. You were a good one.

Always wondered if he was a poster on this site. Unlike most sites secrant does not have many restrictions, so his humor would be able to be displayed in full view. His twitter account was the next best thing.

My wife’s uncle was legendary sportswriter Alf Van Hoose

My brother and I were talking about Alf a few minutes ago. Cecil reminded us of the sports writers, like Alf, we read growing up. In Huntsville we had John Pruitt. He was an Auburn guy, but when he wrote about Alabama, he was fair and gave good solid opinions.

I can’t read the trash sports writers put out now. Cecil was the last I know of that was a true writer, as Van Hoose and Pruitt were before him.

Of all the sportswriters I've ever read, I'll miss him the most.
RIP Cecil.

Man that's terrible. I remember I used to always love to read Cecil's column. He was THE journalist when it came to Bama football. And he wasn't trying to stir the pot like most of them do today. A true professional.
