re: Richt Gets Response from SEC Officials

So once again UGA fans want to cry over a loss to the Gamecocks? They did this all season long, and then all subsequent off-season long after losing to USC in 2011 in Athens. I'm starting to grow weary of all the UGA crying...





The bottom line is this: if the holding call on the UGA OL was wrong, well perhaps Gurley scores the 1st quarter TD. USC and Thompson was owning the UGA secondary in the passing game through the 1st half, but chose to shut it down in the 2nd half and run out the game clock with the lead.

Had USC needed to continue throwing the ball in order to maintain their lead, they could've. As for the intentional grounding, all it did was leave UGA in an excellent position to kick a game-tying FG by their never-misses FG kicker, but he missed it anyways. That's not the fault of the refs.

The game was played out, USC made the most of the breaks they got, and UGA didn't. There were only 2 turnovers in the game that night, and both were by USC. All UGA got out of those TOs were 3 measly points, despite being at the USC 26 and USC 4 off of them. As Spurrier said afterwards, USC was simply meant to win that game. Let's move on....

This. All the "ifs" don't take into account how we would've responded, and how UGA would've responded in kind. If Gurley scores the entire game is a different series of events then what happened. From there, it is impossible to tell how the game would've unfolded.

Look at who started this thread.

Re-watch the play. Thompson got an obvious push before his forward momentum was stopped. We had a bad spot from the get go.

Not to mention there is no telling f UGA scores or not if it wasn't a first. Hell in the previous drive they didn't score from the 4.

I agree had it been a foot short it would not have mattered because there was no clear shot of the ball and where forward momentum ceased. Richt had to challenge though it was his last chance to stay in the game. That is the way it happens sometimes and if the situation were turned around we would be arguing with the Gamecocks as to why it was a first down

If he didn't challenge, wouldn't UGA have had enough timeouts to get the ball back with a little bit of time if they got a stop?

I know they had two timeouts and there was about 1:25 left. I guess it would have been very little time.

More bullshite. In all the years I've worked as HL, I've never had a WH pull out a card....not once.
I've never seen that procedure listed in any mechanics manual or discussed in any officiating clinic.
The chains are pulled, the WH takes a look, makes the call, and it's done.

I personally think Spurrier's decision to run more over passing it in the 2nd half - with a lead initially of only 11 points - is what kept USC from beating UGA by an even larger margin. Thompson was 19 - 26 (73%) for 240 yds and 3 tds in the first half.

Usually teams with a player that's that dominant through a half of FB continue to go to that player - if not go to him even more than before. Make the opponent first prove that they can stop your player, which for Thompson in the 1st half UGA couldn't. Dylan was on pace to throw for 400+ yds and 5-6 TDs, but they shut him down and only let him throw 4 passes the entire 2nd half.

I know USC will need to be able to hold onto leads in the future this season, and they need to get their run game going if they hope to have a special season. But IMO by shutting down the passing game, Spurrier kind of opened the door a bit for UGA to climb back into the game....
