I just can't see that one happening. I think they have take a chance and throw the cash at a prominent HC
And y'all all want us to keep richt but then y'all wnt us to get Mullen. Hmmm, I think deep down you want him there! That's it!

The thing is... Petersen won't leave Boise.. Patterson isn't leaving TCU... I don't see a ton of big name coaches leaving or being on the market. You guys may have to go with a big name coordinator. Hell, would UGA give Mike Leach a chance? Just curious.

Most want Mullen at UGA because we think UGA is on the brink of being a contender, but Mullen is a jack wagon and sucks at recruiting because he's not a likable person. He's not personable at all, and I'm not sure that would work out well at UGA. Simply because his 1st year at UF he went out and ruined a lot of relationships with HS coaches and UF because of his personality. After that, Urban didn't let him go off campus for recruiting and he didn't let him get involved with recruiting really.

yea, thats pretty awful. didn't think people needed to be coerced into trying hard in the SEC.
So what's the gimmick to get them to play this year.

UGA needs to pony up and remind people why party in the UGA. Go get Tubberville...
Posted on 4/24/11 at 2:28 pm to oklahogjr
Tubberville? Not sure a lot of UGA fans would be happy with that. I think they would be better off going with a hot name that's a coordinator or up and coming coach. What about Mike Gundy? Kyle Whittingham? Maybe even a guy like Butch Davis.

i hear yea, you gaits are consistent with you analysis with mullen. when i cam here i was 100% sure i wanted him but yall have talked me down to wishing we'd get patterson (wishful thinking)
heres my take and its perfect after that thread about who was making $$$. UGA has a huge pool of cashola we are sitting on and we barely spend it on the football program. RIcht is a middle tier salary guy in the SEC right now and aside Grantham our assistants make very little.
petersen at boise would be a fantastic get and most UGA fans would be happy (aside from the dumb asses who think being at boise makes all he's done irrelevant). but he has a special needs kid, loves where he is at, and its a LONG trip over athens. not to mention completely different.
patterson. it sucks because he would be PERFECT for the job. but i mean they are heading to the big east, he has a decent gig at TCU, and so on. he'd be an amazing coach
leach. yea, that'll never happen. there have been debated on DR about leach and he's my deal with him. first off, UGA tends to look at coaches who are more mild, those who won't have ESPN all over campus with their antics. thats the anti leach. its annoying but i feel sometimes that Adams, our president, has to micromanager everything and if he has some wild card HC then he'd flip.
second, leach is a great coach for a middle tier program that cannot recruit. at Texas Tech he is out there getting A&M, Texas, OU, Nebraska, and other bigger schools recruiting left overs. so his offense really caters to that lack of talent into a special system where they spread the defense out and just let loose. but at UGA you can recruit anyone you need, you don't really need gimmicks like a 60 pass per game offense or a triple option. UGA, well, anything can work but how many premier programs do you slinging the pig skin 60+ times? an SEC team cannot thrive from the shot gun 24/7 throwing it every down. quite the contrary, the SEC is too fast. you have to mix finesse with muscle. leach just isn't what Georgia needs. he's a great coach for like a UNC, a Louisville, or when he was at Texas Tech. so to answer your question, naw, i would almost perma-ban bet he never gets a call to come to Athens for an interview.
Mullen seems the best go to guy. MSU people can say how much he loves starkville but truth is there is a ceiling at MSU. no matter how hard they try, and they are doing a great job there, they just don't have what all is necessary to run a juggernaut program. Georgia can offer him anything he needs. we have it all really, a talent pool 2nd only to FLA, TX, and CA, money out the wazoo, great facilities, and a deeply passionate fan base. his offense is revolutionary and UF and AU both showed how well it can work with the right personnel. i have some issues with the spread option but thats another convo.
i think UGA knows how impatient everyone is and watching all your brothers you want to call your equals win titles while you lose in memphis really isn't cutting it. they are losing donations and our sell out streak is at stake. i think they offer who need $4M minimum. I can see us paying a guy that or even $5M and then we copy everyone else: we hire a super staff. we haven't had a great track record of hiring big name guys but i think they have no choice. we sell a dream team concept for coaches (haha i laughed thinking about that) where we convince coaches we are doing whatever necessary to win that ever so illusive national title. so mullen may not be perfect but we surround him with a superb staff.
but then again who knows, maybe there will be another big name out there by the time the deed is done. charlie strong would be a good hire, i like pat fitzgerald at NW (i see him as a PSU lock though), or perhaps we lose our fricking minds and hire kirby smart and striking a dagger through the fan base's collective heart with a mighty "frick YOU" and we plunge deep into mediocrity.
anyone who just read that, kudos

That's a bad reflection on Richt. I'm not sure I would ever admit that.
It is but it's part of the reason why I respect Richt; he's openly/painfully honest in situations where most other coaches wouldn't be.
As for Richt's tenure, I would not be counting my dawgs before they are hatched. We have an easy SEC schedule this season. I would not be surprised to see us go 9-3 or even 10-2 and contend for the East at which point CMR will get another contract extension. These conjectures about Richt being washed up at UGA are pretty much just wishful thinking at this point.

I read it. If you hired Charlie Strong that would scare the shite out of UF fans. He pretty much has a dream team staff it Louisville. His entire staff is pretty much made up of our '08 National Championship coaching staff save Clint Hurtt and Mike Sanford. Plus, all the guys he has coaching with him are all really good recruiters. I think Strong would be better for UGA than Mullen. More personable and a really good defensive X's and O's coach. He would be bringing along a good OC with him as well, and a loaded staff. Anyone that can cherry pick some kids out of Miami to Louisville knows how to recruit. Plus, Clint Hurtt would give UGA an instant "in" to South Florida. I don't even want to think about Charlie Strong to UGA.

So you think as long as UGA competes for the East, he gets a contract extension? I would love that.

Yes, I do but I'm hoping you won't be so happy after our next contest in Jacksonville.

If Richt is obtained, UF fans will jump for joy, it's guaranteed. I expect the game in Jax to be another good one.

Posted on 4/24/11 at 4:38 pm to gatordmb89
it was too much of an embarrassment that they turned the score board off right as the last second went off the clock in our game. Must have been too much for them to handle.

Richt is one and out. Lose the Boise St opener and it's all down hill...
Posted on 4/24/11 at 5:39 pm to gatordmb89
I love me some CMR. I cried when Bobbah left FSU, and will cry when Richt leaves the leg humpers.
A Black head coach with a white wife at Athens? As evolved as Georgia is on race relations, I do not see it happening.

Honestly strong is growing on me. And I feel our AD is at least competent enough to look into him and I could see him coming too. Wed have to offer a lot of $$ I feel though

Ok this isn't hazard county. We had a black AD. Our team is like 90% black. Yea we have racism but when it comes to football who gives a shite. I doubt we wouldn't hire a coach because he's black.

I kind of hope he has a good season as well. It may keep him around for a few years.
I want UGA to go 1-11, with that 1 being a win over Boise State

You wouldn't have to give him that much money. Probably .5 to 1 mill over what he makes already. I think he would be a much better hire than Mullen. Plus, not only does Charlie have great recruiting ties in Florida, but so does Clint Hurtt, and Vance Bedford. His coaching staff is really really good.
