Yep, this is the issue. Not Pearl wanting it, but Louisville wanting Pearl and all his baggage. Tough sell.

Pearl has too much of an Atlanta pipeline at Auburn to leave for Louisville. If he stays at Auburn they will name the arena after him and build him a statue. He won't get that same treatment at an old blood.

Since 1987, Auburn and Louisville have the same number of legit final 4s and legit titles.

You have to figure Payne would be at the top. And it makes sense. He’s an alum, he’s ready for a HC job, and he’s in a position where he can leave without much issue at the Knicks.
I’d be really surprised if they go with someone who has had some NCAA issues (even if it’s a perception issue) given how they’ve gotten here.
Something else to consider if their money is getting tight. They might not be able to afford some coaches.
