Why couldn't Dale Brown take proper advantage of one of the greatest talents in the history of basketball?

Why can’t Kirby keep it within 20 when playing Ed Orgeron?

This question could be asked about so many generational basketball talents at many schools

Yes. Very good. That's the year Georgia won the National Championship in football. Thank you.

Obviously.

I ask because I'm watching the LSU-Loyola Marymount (148-141) game from Shaq's freshman year, and it seems like Brown mostly wanted Shaq to focus on defense. I know that Shaq had issues with fouling in those days, but Shaq was half a foot taller than anybody on LMU and should've hung 40 on them (he only scored 20).

I realize that LMU's style of play made this game drastically different than any other game LSU played that year, but LSU was so loaded (Chris Jackson's only season with Shaq) and I wondered if it was just Brown not trusting a freshman to be the center (pun intended) of the team was a major effect on LSU having a good, but not great year?

Especially in a season where Kentucky wasn't Kentucky again, yet.

Why didn’t Coach K win a title with three first round picks in the top 10?

Why is Georgia going to miss the NCAAT with the first overall pick?

Why did Texas lose in the first round with Kevin Durant?

Etc etc etc etc.

Hard to get 19 year olds to play consistently enough to overcome the randomness of basketball. Especially when the end of the year tournament is single elimination

Except that Dale Brown was a good coach, who managed to take lesser teams to Final Fours, so whatever feeling you may have about the university are not valid here.

Shaq’s scoring spiked when Dale asked him to score more especially after Roberts faded away

The 89-90 team had the talent Chris Jackson Stanley Roberts and a freshman non mature shaq. They got beat by a final four making Georgia tech team with 3 lottery picks.

I was -12 years old when Georgia last won a football championship. If I was a Georgia fan, I'd keep my mouth shut about everything.

Wasn't that game in Knoxville? If so, I was there.

LSU never reached the Sweet 16 with Shaq Chris Jackson and Stanley Roberts that in itself is one of the biggest sports Fails of all time IMO.

I tried to preempt this exact ignorant post but alas

Was one season and lost by 3 in the second round to a team with three high draft picks. People like you try to ignore that other teams had talent as well and while yes Shaq BECAME a generational talent but at the time he was just a freshman in a sport that was before the one and done era. Also the national freshman of the year was on that court in that game. But he was suited up for the yellow jackets

He had better teams in 79 and 80 than when Shaq was there. Dewayne Scales - Macklin.
